WAR from Terrorist attack?!?!?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

War?!?!?

Against who?...the hijackers were suicide terrorists...they are dead. Who's behind them?....we may never know.

Obviously the airlines have NO security...think about it!

These people hijacked 4 airplanes from 2 major airlines.....took them over....killed the pilots...and crashed them within an hour and a half of each other. It's hard to admit ...but these cowards were GOOD!

Does anyone believe that they can be stopped at all?

I for one am sure this is only one of many type events that are all too soon going to happen. We CANNOT guard against this type of attack.....don't kid yourself.

I would wager a major biological/germ warfare attack will be next.....as bad as this disaster was......a germ spreading attack would be even more devistating.

Jehovah help us.

I have confident that the CIA and the FBI will be able to trace these events back to their source. They always, repeat always, have. Once they have be located a military response is in order. Not just the occasional cruise missle, but an all out attack directed at the group and the state government that tolerates their existance in their country. Sorry Affganistan, you are going to be first. We have been asking for this maniac for years, you wouldn't listen, now you pay the price. That goes for Libya, Iran, Syria too. We are done with playing the good guy. We're going to get nasty, and we are good at it. Saddle up heros, your country needs you again.

-- Rickstir (rpowell@email.ccis.edu), September 11, 2001.

I think you might be right, Rick, Putin has already given his "blessings" for a military retaliation against whomever might be involved in this, I have no doubt it is Osama Bin Ladin , and that we must strike against him and his cronies as soon as possible.

-- Annie Miller in SE OH (annie@1st.net), September 11, 2001.

Yes! This is an act of war. A terrorist type/method of attack does not mean that it is not an act of war. Thousands of our citizens, on our soil, have been killed and attempted to be killed. That is the very definition of an act of war. I definately agree. Bush, kick ass! annette

-- annette (j_a_henry@yahoo.com), September 11, 2001.

Don't kid yourself we know who did this and I think maybe the new President has enough balls to go in and do the job right .We should have killed this SOB and the others when we had the chance. Our soldiers died to do an incomplete job the first time , lets hope it doesn't happen again. And yes if we had security in are airports like in Europe this would have been avoided .

-- Patty {NY State} (fodfarms@slic.com), September 11, 2001.

Oh yea Rickstir, just like we showed them in Korea,Cuba,Vietnam,Tehran,Lebanon,Gulf War,Somalia,Khobar Towers in Saudi Arabia,U.S. embassies in Dar es Salaam and Nairobi,Balkans. We showed them that America lacks the will.

I agree that you can not be protected from those that are willing to die and from those that do not 'play by the rules'. Invest more in alternative fuels and let them sit in their deserts and 'pound sand'.

-- herder (herder@ny.com), September 11, 2001.

I want to point out to all of you that the Oklahoma City bombing was initially being blamed on terrorists from the Middle East. Don't be too quick to be sure you know who's to blame. As for finding out who did it, the guy that bombed the World Trade Building about 8 years ago is still in prison, and they still haven't been able to find out for certain what group he's affilliated with.

As for airport security, the woman who was able to call her husband and say they'd been hijacked (I think she was on the plane that hit the Pentagon) reported that the hijacker's were armed with "knife- like" weapons. Ceramic and even plastic can be made into "knives". I'm sure that someone clever could find a way to disguise such things that even x-ray wouldn't reveal their true nature.

I personally feel we may be directing too much attention toward the Palestinians...using them as a scapegoat. It has long been know that they had a hatred toward us which would explain their (sick) celebration at the massive loss of lives of American civilians, officials, and rescue team members. What I find strange is that it was not too long ago that we had an issue with Japan over a spy plane they confescated in their air space. At the time tensions were high and they felt that war would be a result. Then everything is ok. Out of nowhere we are attacked by a very well trained and intellagent group of terroristic kamakazi pilots. Let us not forget it was the Japanese that were known for use of kamakazi pilots durring WWII and ironically enough the last major attack on American soil was by the Japanese in WWII when they, "out of nowhere" attacked Pearl Harbor...now, about 50yrs later we get in a quarrel with Japanese leaders and "out of nowhere" we are attacked by kamakazi pilots. The Japanese are a very intellagent people. I'm just saying why aren't they suspect as well?

-- Joshua Lowry (kornfreak6969@hotmail.com), September 11, 2001.

You're right, Rickster, that you are. Time to saddle up boys & girls. Makes me wish I were 20 again, not for the guns & glory, coz there isn't any in war, but like you said, your country needs you, and I wore the green machine clothes proudly before, when I thought I should. Wasn't a popular color, but TS, you know? Was the thing to do. On the other hand, if I were 20 again & working where I was, I'd be a corpse now, coz I worked right about where the Pentagon plane attacked. Sobering thought. Seem to remember a fella standing up & saying "Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country." Seems the trend for the past couple decades has been the reverse of that idea, or maybe it's the population with which I've worked. Anyway, I wish all of ya well & hope this doesn't escalate. God be with you all & those dead & crying tonight........Kt.

-- K-K-K-Katie (yarnspinnerkt@aol.com), September 11, 2001.

Joshua, I don't remember any incident recently with the Japanese. The CHINESE confiscated one of our planes, within Bush's term in office. It that the incident that you are remembering?

-- Joy F [in So. Wisconsin] (CatFlunky@excite.com), September 11, 2001.

Ok...you have me feeling dumb Joy...it was the Chinese...but none-the-less, why are they not suspect?

-- Joshua Lowry (kornfreak6969@hotmail.com), September 11, 2001.

Another point to make here about the Chinese and their being a probable suspect; the Chines culture for CENTURIES have a history of slow torterous acts.

-- Bernice (geminigoats@yahoo.com), September 11, 2001.

I agree that we have to retaliate as soon as possible. But, who do we retaliate against. The above posts have suggested at least 3 targets. We need to let the intel people find out for sure who is to blame for this cowardly attack and then kick some major ass. We can not afford to let them get away with this. If we do we can expect it to happen over and over again.

-- Doug in KY (toadshutes@yahoo.com), September 11, 2001.

Smells like Bin Ladin to me! If that if confirmed by the CIA and FBI, then Afghanistan better duck and cover!

-- Cheryl in KS (cherylmccoy@rocketmail.com), September 11, 2001.

Providing it is traced to some terrorist organization in some other country, what satisfaction can we get from killing four or five terrorist leaders? They'll be replaced the next day complete with new attacks to pay us back for those surgical removals. We must repay in kind. No, not suicide missions, just good old fashioned WWII-styled carpet bombing of their major cities until only rubble is left. And that done without prior warning. "Oh! That might kill some innocent civilians." you say? Yea. Right.

-- monty (monty@bayou.com), September 11, 2001.

Monty, I believe the popular term is "collateral damage." I agree with you 100%. America needs to do some serious ass kicking this time. I hope the prez doesn't wimp out at the last minute like his daddy did and truly gets the job done this time!

It was good to hear our allies sticking up for us this time. I hope they'll stand with us when it's time to fight. Time will tell.

Pray for our prez, and God bless us all!

-- Cheryl in KS (cherylmccoy@rocketmail.com), September 11, 2001.

Bomb the civilians. Yup. Whole world gonna be blind.

I have nothing but contempt for terrorist who bomb civilians. Even if they label it "collateral damage" and wear uniforms.

-- Sojourner (notime4@summer.spam), September 11, 2001.

I have nothing but contempt for civilians who house and protect terrorists.

-- Cheryl in KS (cherylmccoy@rocketmail.com), September 11, 2001.

Cheryl, what makes you think Bin Laden is behind this outrage?

Monty, you are too late, Afghanistan has been rubble for some years now.

-- john hill (john@cnd.co.nz), September 11, 2001.

today shock.......tomorrow this country will cry for blood, its time to anty up boys.

-- paul a coleman (wormfarmerone@yahoo.com), September 11, 2001.

I'm not 100% convinced that he is - however there have been news reports that at least one person on one of the hijacked planes has been linked to his organization. And there are reports of intercepted communications within his organization saying that two of their targets had been hit. And of course, there's his past attempts! While this isn't conclusive evidence, it does suggest that his group is involved in these terrible acts of terrorism against our country. I would not want our government to take action until they have definite proof. But I DO expect our government to kick some serious ass as soon as they DO have definite proof!

-- Cheryl in KS (cherylmccoy@rocketmail.com), September 11, 2001.

First let me say this ... and I feel confident that I speak for all of America ... this attack has deeply affected and wounded each of us in some way! I pray for comfort for all the hurting families that lost loved ones today - my heart goes out to you!!! That's the tender side of my American heart ... now ...

For so long this country has been lulled into a sense of security and has shown very little backbone when dealing with those who threaten our way of life and liberty. We've had a "slap-em-on-the-wrist" mentality, and that has to change. Should we go head-hunting those who think what happened today was something to CELEBRATE?! YOU DAMN RIGHT WE SHOULD!!! In my opinion, they are condoning what happened and would not only applaud the murdin' scum, but would most likely harbor them as well. Our nation has to come to the place where we're willing to take drastic measures to prove that we won't just lay down and take it up the yeng-yang! Presedint Bush needs to pay attention to those applauding this heinous crime against us and send a little present their way for thier "celebration!"

I've rampled on to try to get this point across ... wipe out the bastards that want to bring us down! give America back the pride it once had of being a country of greatness! Like I'm sure Mr. Earl Pitts would say,

"WAKE UP AMERIKA ... KICK SOME ASS!!!

-- Phil in KS (pemccoy@yahoo.com), September 11, 2001.

hey, actually on some board elsewhere a friend reads folks HAVE come up with a chinese connection.....meaning, all are suspect. we can't go bomb ANYONE until we know for a fact who is behind it. Otherwise, more innocent will die. For that matter, how do we know it isn't some folks from the US? Like someone else pointed out, think where blame was pointed with the Oklahoma City bombing when it first occured. And look where it ended up. All I am saying is that we are quick to want to kill, bomb, retaliate, and maybe we need to be a bit slower in our movements.

Have you all called to find out when and where you can give blood? I was told by the red cross I had to wait until the 25th. Please think about checking if you haven't already.

-- marcee (thathope@mwt.net), September 11, 2001.

Hey Sojourner ... how much comtempt you gonna have of them American flag-burnin', sand poundin' SOBs that were on T.V. today when they're burnin' flags in yer back yard? I've talked before on here about hypocrites - I'd like to see how fast you fetched the shotgun if'n they started trampin up yer drive killin' everything you hold dear and laughin' in yer face about it? Huuummmm .... let this country get some respect back, fer cryin' out loud!!!!!! They was CIVILIANS on the T.V. cheering about what happened today ... kill em all!!!

-- Cap'n (cptnktal@yahoo.com), September 11, 2001.

Well... we still don't know who McVie was linked to or the other guy, the one took it to the grave and the other ain't talkin! I remember we were on our way home from a visit to western NY to visit family after the bombing, as we got to pittsburg i changed the radio station and this DJ had it linked to Clinto, forgot the details but sure expected the station to get real quite like in the movie the Stand, where they killed the announcer. speaking of movies..... makes ya wonder huh?

I say this, sure, we can go blind by bobming civialis, we did in Viet nam, liked civilians so this isn't new to war, goes back centuries. no, it isn't right, as i was thinking today at school, children are innocent, but when it comes to political and economic gains, in war they don't care.

and.... when we get the information out of the passenger lists we will know more. I think Bin laden is behind this too as I did a search on him and came upon a old 20/20 post with an interview with him, he said he was going to bring america down. Only those were not his exact words, they were worse!

Think about this, we go and kill in war as retalitation civilians to keep us safe right? If we didn't do that then what if they killed our loved ones and civilians here? There is a price to pay for security. i also don't think we will need to worry either cause this ain't gonna be a ground war.... its gonna be worse.

-- Bernice (geminigoats@yahoo.com), September 11, 2001.

And of course all those civilians are in cahoots. They all agree, every last one of them, right down to the suckling babes. And of course you already know they are guilty.

Hey, "they" "KNEW" the same things about us.

Blind, blind, blind.

Blind hatred, that is. It's what caused this, and its what will perpetuate it. Blood leads to more blood, and more blood still.

-- Sojourner (notime4@summer.spam), September 11, 2001.

Ya know .. I have to admit that thar's some hate and discontent in the post I left a'fore. But it's by no means blind ... all ya gotta do is look around at how this country has fumbled the ball in dealing with violent attacks against us (even in the OK bombing). Do ya have any idea what the greatest detriment to violent crime has been proved to be? Guess? Blowin' the brains outta the bastard that did the crime! The bleedin-heart, liberal, god-fer-givem, let-em-walk on us attitude this country has had over the last quarter century and better is why we're in the shape we're in right now. Ya think they would even consider doin somethin like what they did ifn they KNEW we'd blow the s*%t outta them where ever they were hidin? I don't think so! We woulda had Sadaam sometime back if it weren't fer him hidin in a bunker behind a bunch of civies and us not wantin innocents to die with him. Well ... what about our innocents? What about all the crys comin from New York and Washington and all over America that's screamin for justice and yes ... even retaliation!

I'm not a sadists and I'm not blind with hate! I love this country and I love it's people and I love our way of livin! I'm just sayin it's time we woke up and realize that nobody respects a wimp - we gotta get our respect back! And fer yer information - I would much rather thier innocent children, women and men die (whoever "they" happen to be) than ours! Wish to God none of it was necessary, but they struck the first blow, not us! I truely hope our President has the backbone to respond in such a way that anyone thinking about messin with us in the future won't have any doubts about how seriously we take our freedom!

-- Cap'n (cptnktal@yahoo.com), September 12, 2001.

Cap'n: the fact that we Americans, as a whole, value human life and try hard not to kill innocent civilians is one of the things that distinguishes us from terrorists. Your attitude is, I think, what these terrorists are trying to provoke. They want us to retaliate in anger and kill "their" civilians--this will fuel the fires they are fanning and cause them to gain massive amounts of new recruits. Not a highly educated opinion but just how I see it.

-- Elizabeth in E TX (kimprice@peoplescom.net), September 12, 2001.

Hey guys Lets have our gov. go bomb Hell out of em. Mabe it's one of your neighbor's who's responsible and they can "kick ass" your home and community. Hell yes its War, remember We declared it on terrorists a long time ago. And it dont look like we doing to good !

-- Nathan Harris Sr. (barnyard_mini@yahoo.com), September 12, 2001.

Please re-read your postings.... listen to yourselves is this really what you want the rest of the world to see Americans as, man do you really think it is going to help the people of many nationalities who lost their lives today by killing more people?

Surely the only people who should be held accountable are the ones who orchestrated this foul plot - patience, more reliable inforamtion is needed.

-- Jenny Butler (heavenleigh2938@hotmail.com), September 12, 2001.

Keep in mind also that many of these "harboring governments" are just that - the government only. the rest of the country is, in general, made up of hardworking and mostly uninvolved citizens (of the peasant sort, usually) who have (unlike us) little or no say in how their government is run or who it supports. Just because, say, the Afganistan government may shelter and support Ben Ladin doesn't mean that the local folks know, support, or condone these things. They're just stuck with whatever bossman decides to do, and the reprisals that come with it. Most of them have as little to do with the terrorist activities than the passengers on the planes that crashed into the towers - they're just in the wrong place at the wrong time.

-- Soni (thomkilroy@hotmail.com), September 12, 2001.

Sojourner Does it occur to you that the terrorists used our innocent citizens as human bombs to destroy the WTC and a section of the Petagon. Sorry, I don't think that the masses of folks that support terrorisim and laugh, dance and sing in the streets over this act of cowardice are all that innocent.

-- Dianne (yankeeterrier@hotmail.com), September 12, 2001.

I totally agree we have to find the RESPONSIBLE party and deal with them. BUT . . .

WE BETTER MAKE DAMN SURE THEY ARE GUILTY OF THIS CRIME.

Remember, we bombed an asprin factory because we were "sure" it was used for making components of mass destruction. So we bomb it, only to find that even if Bin Laden was involved in the company, our information wasn't correct. There were some casualties there, innocents all, and we committed the act. Our thirst for revenge killed innocents and that was wrong. If I remember correctly, where was the outrage? Not so much was said about the matter; we paid them off several million per life and got along with ours.

My point? I don't believe the terrorism is over, not by a long shot. These people want to see us DEAD! So we have to take a long term approach. Find out who is responsible, then open the can of whoop ass. And when we do find the responsible, they should receive as much mercy as our people in the towers received.

None.

-- j. r. guerra (jrguerra@boultinghousesimpson.com), September 12, 2001.

I didn't realize so many people with the last name "bin Laden" actually read and answered these post. We're in real trouble America! By-the-way Sojourner, have you considered applying for a passport to Algeria, Egypt, or Afganistan? No. I didn't think you had. But I'm sure those innocent civilians would welcome you with err...open arms.

-- monty (monty@bayou.com), September 12, 2001.

So Monty, just what do you mean? I have never been to Algeria but I found the people to Egypt to me much like those of other countries and I can most definitely assure you the people of Afghanistan do not hate America or Americans, well not yet.
