Long gas lines.

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

Well it started. In Columbia, MO, where I work, there is panic in the gas lines. Long lines, honking, shouting..... Price is still $1.50 a gallon but rumors have it that the price will go to $3.50 tonight and could go to $7.00 !!! I live 50 miles away. That's a 100 mile commute. I get 20 mpg. I don't even want to "do the math" on that one. I can work from home a couple of days a week I hope. We are trying to get our 300 gallon gas tank filled, the price is 1.55, but the supplier doesn't know if they will have enough gas to fill the orders they have.... There is suspected to be a "run" on the supermarkets today too. That's not a problem for us, except that we can't grow toilet paper. Guess I'll learn how to make beer. It might just be time to start carrying my trusty 9mm. I guess I'm in the better safe than sorry mode.

I can only imagine just how bad things will be before it's over. My husband and I are fortunate to be retired and live in a very remote area. We don't require a lot to get by and are as prepared as we can be. I think we'll be carrying our pistols when we do venture off the property.

Here in NW Arkansas as the news was telling us not to panic by running to stores and gas stations and that gas prices wouldn't be effected, area gas stations were raising their prices. Managers would bring "bodyguards" with them as they did their price changes. Many places closed early. Even Walmart is closed so I guess we couldn't run to the store if we wanted to.

I think your stores are gouging you . . . deep south Texas, I paid $1.39 per gallon 15 minutes ago (7:10 a.m.). Hell with the lines, there were three cars in a six bay gas pump setup. Still brought the small car to work, though. My Suburban is our backup; eats gas like no tomorrow.

I live in a town of about 500 in Iowa. The line for gas was 2 blocks long last night. Price was 1.67 yesterday, 1.99 today. I agree with the gauging. Ten miles down the road it's still 1.67. Sick folks taking advantage of an awful situation. Very, very sad.
