newark to san fran united airlines flight crashed near pittsburgh. confirmed.

I've reported the following on FR: "Local report reconfirms it was a 747 and told to putdown or be shot down by N.G. Local news reports another flight from Pittsburgh International was hijacked and is circling Dulles at this time (no confirmation). ... Local scanner reports from 747 indicate there are fatalities. Scanner reports request all air traffic to land in the vicinity east and southeast of PGH. More later. Waiting for hospital reports from wife."

Flight went down near Indian Lake near Shanksville. It originated in Cleveland and was reported to be heading for Camp David. 90 passengers were reported on board. There appear to be no survivors. Am following scanner and will report more later.

Latest news from PA. Flight crash at Shanksville was United 93, 727 originating from Newark on way to California with 90 plus passengers. Reports were 911 call was placed and picked up by Cell system in Greensburg PA from passenger on plane reporting the hijacking. State police report all overweight or oversize trucks to be stopped in searched in PA. Initial reports are there are no survivors from the PA crash. Prior to plane going down it was reported by state police that Air NG ordered the plane to put down or be shot down. A witness heard an explosion, saw the plane wobble and bank into the ground. No other confirmation on this, nor do I think we will hear much more if this was true. All flights have been ordered grounded for all private and commercial aircraft by local emergency management, state police, governor and FAA. Will report more info as it becomes available. I think I lost a couple engineer friends today at the WTC. Need to make some calls.

News now reporting that the plane that crashed in Pennsylvania may have been headed to Camp David, according to a call from the plane that got through.

If it was *shot down* it will be big news in the days ahead. They won't be able to hide that story from the press or the relatives of those who died. Also, United will spill it if that's the cause, since they won't want to be responsible for something out of their control.
