Oh My God!!! Is this the beginning of the end!!

All those poor people!

-- Anonymous, September 11, 2001

No dear sweet Marcia, this is what we have known would eventually happen for quite a while, I am just surprised it has taken THIS long, and is one of the many, many reasons we have busted our butts to be able to live in the boondocks we can be totally self-sufficient IF WE HAVE TO, Y2K not withstanding !!!

My dear departed favorite uncle was a "lifer" in the regular Army, an NCO officer, all over the world in his tour of service. He had a "retirement" log cabin in the far wilds of WV, aquired during the height of the Cold War, and he had expanded on it over the years cause over the years other needs developed for it's use, the sagging economy was just one of them, terrorist attack was another.

I learned alot from my wise uncle Bill, and have been pracising his methods of preparedness for many, many years, way before the "threat" of Y2K.

The current terrorist attack will have a negative effect on the entire economy, advantageous to no one.

Are you and your family prepared???

-- Anonymous, September 11, 2001

Even though I believed that this would happen some day, I am still shocked.

-- Anonymous, September 11, 2001

Annie...Most of my family that lives out of state have always though we were "strange". My son and family and MIL are living on our 100 acres with us...we can take care of them. Like the rest of you folks, we are prepared physically but not emotionally for a disaster such as this. Just walked outside to clear my head and there was a family of goldfinches flitting thru the treetops...babies following parents and begging for food I suppose. With what is now happening in the U.S. and those poor families that are affected how nice it to see something so natural and real still occurring. Really brought tears to my eyes, though!!!!

-- Anonymous, September 11, 2001

And Annie...your uncle was a VERY smart man!!!! You are lucky to have had such a mentor.

We have enough room for our entire extended family, plus. The woods abound with deer, rabbit, squirrel and other game; veggies might be a problem. Water available in the pond next door. Plenty of wood for heat if needed; wish they would have brought out our new propane tank already though. Generators available but gas might be a problem. Still have lots of empty canning jars, may buy more lids when I go to town today. Think I will focus on stocking up on the frivolous stuff like coffee and chocolate today; okay on most other things.

I walked out the door stunned by the carnage on the TV - walked out to the dogs barking and playing, cats curling 'round my ankles, chickens announcing the arrival of another egg, fluffy white clouds in a blue sky...I feel like I am in limbo. It almost seems wrong for it to be this calm, beautiful and peaceful here when the lives of other Americans have been suddenly and violently ended or torn beyond hope of repair.

Thoughts of peace to you all at this time, this is devastating.I am dumbfounded.I have been praying for your country.Love from canada...teri

DH and I are so prepared that there is not much to do in that department, but I just feel like I should be doing something. So I'm running around cleaning house of all things! In between vacuuming and doing other stuff, I stop and check in here...you all are helping me keep my sanity!! Later I think we will gather up several gas storage cans and take them to be refilled (fuel for our generator). THEN we're going to donate blood!!

-- Anonymous, September 11, 2001

Marcia, so funny , that is what I have been doing too! Cleaning house! It is all really scary, no matter how much you have prepared. My husband is working in Columbus and I want him to come home! We don't know what else they have planned. Most of us who post here and at Countryside have done what we can to be prepared physically, I think that spiritualy is where now the preparing is being done. Love you all, just remember that we are all where we are soppose to be, or else we wouldn't be here. We can all face what we are to face. We are here to experiance what we experiance. Yes Marcha I had the same strange feeling when I went outside, the calmness out there is so different from what is coming over the radio. All Love TRen

Tren...sure hope your husband can get home soon to be with you!! Thanks for your words of support.

-- Anonymous, September 11, 2001

Very sad. I am at a loss for words. I plan to finish working, and then go hoe weeds most of the day. I have been in tears many, many times today. It is unimaginable.

Prayers for those who suffered those terrible losses. And prayers for all of us, to keep us on an even keel.

Don't forget to buy gas. We filled up our containers.

Tren, my husband is in CA, trying to figure out how to get home, his flight tommorow to Columbus, OH is sure to be delayed or canceled. Usually he is out there in the semi truck, but this time he had to fly there to settle a traffic ticket matter, the kicker is that court was cancelled today due to this happening, and will be reset for November! The whole trip and flight wasted!

Hope your husband gets home safely soon!

The United flight that went down outside of Pittsburgh was only 50 miles north of my relatives house in Accident, MD, even our small towns are not safe from terrorism.

My daughter was flying out to stay with me this week and she was in the air when this happened!! I was totally beside myself to say the least! She finaly called from Houston where her plane landed. Whew!! I lost a wife once in a plane accident and I don't know what I would have done if my daughter would have been on one of the unfortunate planes.

I plan on sitting under a pine tree and completly allow myself to fall apart!!! Then when I get control I'm going to give blood the then begin to be one hell of a lot more loving and understanding person!! Less judgemental and not so stuck one my righteous point of view!!!! What else can we do?.......Kirk

At times of crisis we should all show as much love for each other as is humanly possible. My love and concern to you all. Just had to check in with my friends. in love with lots of hugs.........diane

I don't know whats wrong with this world? I don't know what to say either. I was thrown by all this and remained teary eyed all morning. I thought we in the United States were protected more than this. Sure makes you think. We aren't stocked up as much as I would like to be. But if all else fails, we have pigs, chickens and rabbits. Like Polly, vegetables may be a problem. Better get those apples put up! Everyone is in our prayers. Phyllis

It's so good to come here and hear from you all in a time like this. Dianne and Kirk, good to hear from you guys.

Gosh Annie that must be so hard for you to have your husband all the way out there and not able to come home, you poor darling! You are being so brave about it! I think that I would be having a fit!

Well, my poetry meeting is cancelled tomorrow. It's so funny how we all think alike, I too, like Polly restocked on canning lids today!

Jims home now, and I don't want to let him go to work tomorrow. Perhaps they plan on hitting all the major cities! I say quit your job and we will find one closer to home, even if I have to go out and wait tables!

Kirk, my heart is with you out there under your tree, getting ready to do what you can. What a spirit!

Love you all, TRen

Hugs back at ya, Diane........

-- Anonymous, September 11, 2001

Diane, you were one person that was really on my mind today. I am so glad you checked in.

Love back at all of you,

-- Anonymous, September 11, 2001

Well, I thought I posted something here earlier . . .

I am in shock. The realization that hit me hardest was when it was reported that these were hijacked domestic flights. All those poor people on the flights! All of it is too horrible.

I am really sorry to hear that folks are assuming this is Middle-East terrorists, without ANY concrete evidence.

Diane, glad to see you checking in, been thinking about you.

Was taken away from my webtv this afternoon by a "normal" homestead experience...one of our pigs escaped and would not cooperate and go in thru the gate of the pig pen. Then she decided to go back in thru the hole in the fence that she escaped thru!! DH and I were at a loss as to what to do, shoot her at only 190 lbs. or hope to get her back in. Thank goodness she made the decision for us! But tonight, coming back here and reading all the posts of support...I am sooooo thankful for this forum and all the friends I have here!!!!!

-- Anonymous, September 11, 2001

renee, excuse my lack of focus and my lack of manners. Good to see you back here!!!!!! Please forgive me, as it's been one helluva day.

I went through the day in quite a dazed fog. I had an appointment to have my old van repaired (again...) and it was very hard to tear myself away from the Tv, but Public Radio was covering it so I was listening pretty hard and trying to be a good driver at the same time. I had errands to do since I'd driven all the way to town, but everywhere I went, people seemed dazed and somewhat confused. People at stores seemed to be TRYING to put on a welcoming smile, but it sure seemed forced today. The only ones that really looked happy were children -- little ones who were crying for a new toy, ones old enough to know better but still wrapped up in hormonal solitary.

I heard some of the most incredible statements today too. While I am not willing to take any bets against Islamic extremists, I'm hesitant to believe and embrace 'Scorched Earth' philosophies about this. I am remembering how people proclaimed with conviction that the Oklahoma City bombing COULD NOT have been done by an American, and how...hm, can't remember his first name, the security guard, I think his name is Richard Jewel, who was hounded by the press as being responsible for the Olympic Centennial Park bombing and turned out to have nothing to do with it, other than having found the bomb. (no apolgies tendered in either case that I recall).

I fear for the safety of innocent people who look remotely like they might be from a Muslim nation right now. I remember a young Korean man being beaten to death when Americans started to cowboy up over the loss of jobs to Japan. The (expletive deleted)s thought that he was Japanese, so they beat him to death. Never mind that there were NO jobs being lost in that vicinity, it was merely an excuse to vent rage.

I am lighting a spirit fire tonight, to guide the lost on their way and burning some incense to pray for peace and healing.

My heart goes out to all American in light of this terrible tragdy. Kirk, I know how relieved you must be to have finally heard from your daughter. I'm so sorry you experienced the loss of your wife. You must have been absolutely scared to death for your daughter.

I hope all of us will stand united. Fly our American Flags, give blood and keep our wits about us. We're gonna need them.

Wishing you enough.

-- Anonymous, September 12, 2001

Kirk, is there room for more of us under your tree? I have been thinking of you sitting there...

-- Anonymous, September 12, 2001

Yah, Trev ! Fly our flags! Maybe this will bring us Americans together as a people! I hung mine out yesterday, It is a flag that has the Statue of Liberty on it, the National Anthem, and the American Flag. I usually just put it up for the forth of July I feel very loving of my country right now.

The Statue of Liberty still stands!

-- Anonymous, September 12, 2001

Thanks for the kind thoughts everyone! My hearts ALMOST beating normally again.....Kirk

Hi Diane you sweet thang!!!!!!

Hey guys don't listen to too much TV. Get out of the house and away from it sometimes, and lets listen to Nature and our hearts.

What tren said.

According to Pat Robertson and Jerry Falwell, Tuesday's attack was all my fault. Here is a partial transcript from "The 700 Club" broadcast on Thursday, Sept. 13th.

JERRY FALWELL: The ACLU's got to take a lot of blame for this.

PAT ROBERTSON: Well, yes.

JERRY FALWELL: And, I know that I'll hear from them for this. But, throwing God out successfully with the help of the federal court system, throwing God out of the public square, out of the schools. The abortionists have got to bear some burden for this because God will not be mocked. And when we destroy 40 million little innocent babies, we make God mad. I really believe that the pagans, and the abortionists, and the feminists, and the gays and the lesbians who are actively trying to make that an alternative lifestyle, the ACLU, People For the American Way -- all of them who have tried to secularize America -- I point the finger in their face and say "you helped this happen."

Sherry: Wow I just read this post!!!! I just can't believe he would say a thing like that. I know he thinks its true but why right now?? Unbelievable!!.....Kirk

-- Anonymous, September 16, 2001

Actually its not that hard to believe. This is typical for Fallwell, Robertson, and their ilk. Always pointing fingers, instead of looking inside themselves. They're so silly they have become caracatures......

-- Anonymous, September 16, 2001

Sherri, just for the record..........that is certainly not MY God they are speaking of. hugs

-- Anonymous, September 16, 2001

Nor mine!

Just catching up on all the posts (got back into town..) but this one sure caught my eye! (And they think the "enemy" are hate- mongers...sheesh!!!!)

-- Anonymous, September 16, 2001

Well, Ole' Pat has thrown the pickup in reverse and is backing away from Jerry's comments as fast as he can. Now he claims that what they really said is that the people who want to remove God from our government and our schools have angered God so much that he has now withdrawn his protection from the USA. He claims that the evil liberal media is taking his and Jerry's comments out of context to make them look bad.

I feel so sorry for the well-meaning people who believe this BS. I can't imagine how terrifying it must be to believe that the God that you've trusted to protect you has withdrawn that protection. I think that it's totally sick for folks like Robertson and Falwell to use this national tragedy to further their own agendas. Even though I choose not to worship the Christian God, I do respect him enough to know that he wouldn't play games like this.
