With pictures as good as yours, you don't need to solicit comments. Positive comments don't tell you anything you don't already know, negative comments are sour grapes. The web site works very well, also. Mitch

I have seen Brian's photos before and think they are quite good. However, this comment:

negative comments are sour grapes.

is ridiculous and serves no purpose except to keep people from speaking their mind. Is there only one standard by which photographs can be judged? How can there be arguments about photographs in museums, books and galleries, yet none about Brian's?

As I said, it's a ridiculous comment that insults everyone's intelligence.

And that should in no way reflect on Brian's photographs.

Sorry to have insulted your intelligence. When did you start speaking for everyone?

Why should we be in need of exhibiting such a level of aggresiveness to clearly state one's mind?

If we ask for comments from our friends there is certainly a weak logic in expecting only positive evaluations of our work. But unfavorable comments could (I'd rather say "should") still be polite or at least just plainly educated.

I saw Brian's work but still under shock because of today's news I didn't feel like examining this body of work the carefully it deserves. I mean I already know that we are in front of a serious work but I wasn't in the mood to properly enjoy it and feel that at least commenting about photography could be done in a dignified temper. Same as explaining our thoughts about our friends' opinions.

And, Brian, wellcome ! I know many of us will be able to learn more than something from you in this site. Thanks for sharing your work.

Yes, welcome Brian. Good idea to introduce yourself with a new thread like this. I like the pictures on your web site very much and many of the images are very powerful IMHO. It's totally different from my type of photography and I don't feel I can contribute much in the way of meaningful criticism.

After yesterdays events it seems trite to even talk about photography but thanks for your comments. I normaly seek out other peoples opinions just because everyone has a different way of seeing the world andgood to learn for that.

"Is there only one standard by which photographs can be judged?"

Yes indeed, the photographer's own standards! All others are mere opinions, not standards.
