G. Strachan as new number 2?

He's got the tin-tack from Coventry.

Just a thought.

He would get my vote.

Great chap, will miss him giving after-match comments. Can't say I'm too impressed with him as a coach mind....

Did a fair job considering the toss he put up with at Coventry. I always thought he was going to chin any interviewer after a bad game (most games?). Ginga, Jock, Jilted

The perfect choice as coach and the next manager. There is nobody else in his high class

We could do a lot worse - "damned by faint praise!"

Worryingly enough at the time he was Rodney Marsh's tip to take over from Gullit as NUFC boss, which sure enough in retrospect would have been a bad move.

I just get the feeling he'd do the biz as YBR's number two, though.

Do we need a number 2? How many games have we lost since the last one left?!

-- Anonymous, September 10, 2001

.... I suspect that's more to do with who "the other one" was, Steph.

Come to think of it - how many games have his new Club won since he joined them? Coincidence?

Steph,
I didn't answer your question. I think we do need a number 2 to ease the burden on BR. John Carver has been getting some good press from one or two of the players, so perhaps he's doing a good job, and at least as good as MW.

However, in my mind the issue of the No.2 right now is tied up with the succession planning for BR. In the ideal world, we would have his ultimate successor working alongside him as his No.2 during his last season or two. Of course, there is a school of thought that says his ultimate successor is indeed working alongside him - as his Club Captain. I don't particularly want to open up up this old chestnut for debate again, but the longer the No.2 position is left unfilled, the more I'm inclined to think that may indeed be the plan.

Clarky,
That wasn't really a serious question more (as you spotted!) a comment on MW and his unfeasibly white trainers!

Old Chinese proverb - "man with unspeakably white sneakers, him do sweet f*** all on training ground".

I agree that we need a sucsessor to Bobby Robson as a number two NOW and think that Strachan would make a great future manager. He had a good record, of keeping Coventry afloat while at the same time having to constantly sell his best players. Imagine what he could have achieved if he'd been able to keep his best players?

He's being linked with the Scotland job.

looks like Southampton are enjoying the fruits of Wadsworth....

Wonder if this means we'll finally beat Soton at their place.

Don't be so stupid ciara! Interesting thought though - Robson would have the perfect foil for post-defeat interview, the old "I told you so!".

On GS - I have to say that we don't need him at this club, but he is a lovely chap.
