Ryder Cup Quandry

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

So here's the rub. Liverpool at home, and the rare chance to see Owen add to his 'goals v Newcastle' column

or

the chance to see the last day of the Ryder Cup match at the Belfry courtesy of a mate.

More difficult than it sounds - the RCup has been one of the greatest sporting tournaments since the mid 80's,and I've never been; Newcastle play about a hundred matches between Ryder Cups, so not missing much. I know, knee jerk reaction says TOON but the head is poiting the other way.

Please send me on the path of enlightenment masters?

I'd tape the match and go to the Ryder cup.

Actually I might just do that.

Ryder Cup for sure...ye can be sure that with Distin in the side we'll thump the scousers and be top of the table by then!!! Take the day and support the Europeans... lord knows they'll need it.

Neither for me.... I've stupidly arranged a "training" session in Snowdonia. Apparently there are 15 peaks over 3000 feet so we are going to do them ina w/end. Next year we plan to do them all in the same day. Bliddy mad!

Anyho nick .... it has to be the Ryder Cup. You can see us lose to 'pool every year. You have to wait 2 yrs to see us lose to USA

FOOTBALL and only Football counts......

Hmm, seems to be an alarming number of us who DON@t always put Newcastle first. I think I'm amongst you tho', I'm seriously thinking of going to the Belfry.

I've phoned up that http://www.americangolfholid ay.com/ competition on Sky TV, to try to get some free ticket. when I win them my 2 season tickets will be spare.

It doesn't come into the equation...Newcastle United is the only fixture. Exceptions being: school sports day, playing some sport yerself, close family member playing (e.g. 7 yr old Keith makes his school debut...missing his 1st half hattrick would be a killer).

Difficult choice Nick.

I went to Valderrama last time it was played in Europe - for just one day's play (bloody crackers!) - the first day when they had the torrential rainstorm a couple of hours before the scheduled start. It started to rain as we left our hotel to drive to the course, and I've never, ever seen rain like it.

Play was delayed a couple of hours, but it was a miracle it got going at all that day. I did enjoy it, and the atmosphere was just fantastic. However, with only 4 matches on the course, and something like 25,000 spectators, viewing is not at all easy, and frankly you don't see an awful lot of play. Of course, if you're going on the final day there will be 10, or is it 12, matches on the course and you will witness what should be a very exciting climax!!!

Enjoy your day, whatever your decision - beating the Pool will also be enjoyable!

How was Carlos clarky?

There are people here who would kill for that choice Nick!!

Que?

You referring to the King, or the Jackal, Gus?

I once had Valderrama come to me. Well, walk past me in the hall outside the RFK locker rooms. He was on his way out to the pitch for a match. Don't think I'd choose that over watching us play, though.

hat, coat, etc.... ;-)

For Carlos, see ciara thread clarky.

ime for me to go to bed, I am on the same wavelength as ciara or vice versa!

Gotcha, kidda!

Clarky - you're right, difficult choice but I realise how bliddy lucky I am to have the choice!

I'm going to be a real coward and let others make the decision - in this case Newcastle United. If we beat the mancs I'll go to the L'pool match, if we get stuffed then Belfry here I come.

(Course, after that, bound to be a draw, isn't it?)

Football, only football. You miss a match for a funeral and nowt else.Even then it has to be your own!!

Nick, Clarky has got it about right, I have done the open at Troon, St Andrews , Turnberry , Carnoustie and also tournaments at Gleneagles, apart from a couple of the above where you have a good choice and variation at the turn , you are better taping it. Not sure about the belfry for access on last day , I had always corporate tickets , free car park/entrance/booze etc but still found it a grind, Everyone has their own favourite to follow but you can bet your bottom dollar that the group you choose will also be the choice of the majority of the walkers. I can only say in favour, that attend once for the sole pupose of saying `been there`, cos you get better coverage on Brit Tv, from the tee - approach - green , putt - putt on USA coverage. For atmosphere I would love to attend Cheltenham Gold Cup week , Horse of the Year and Wimbledon have passed me by!!

Bill - good point about the view at the golf. In fact, I live 5 mins from Woburn GC and last Sunday watched the Senior tour there. Cos there weren't many spectators there was a wonderful view (and don't those old buggars give it a belt still!). Back in '95 I went to see the Masters there, and trying to follow Faldo around was ridiculous, saw about every third shot. So I know the Belfry will be bad news for following players, it's more the atmosphere I want to experience.
