greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

Does anyone out here have any suggestions as to what are some good "Herb/Herbal" and "Native American Medicine" books? I have a few but want to expand my library and knowledge.

Hello Tom, There are two books that I would recommend. The first one is Peterson Field Guide on Medicinal Plants and Herbs by Steven Foster and James A. Duke. (Both authors have books on using medicinal and culinary herbs themselves). The second book could be right from your local state conservationist. We have one here in Missouri that the state conservationist issued called Edible Plants and Herbs of Missouri. Sincerely, Ernest

Tom, here are a few books that I have. Earth Medicine, Earth Food by Michael A. Weiner; How Indians Use Wild Plants for Food, Medicine & Crafts by Frances Densmore and Tom Brown's Guide to Wild Edible & Medicinal Plants by Tom Brown, Jr. I know I have more but must be stored away somewhere.

Laurie Lacey's Wild World Of Plants site can sometimes be useful. http://www.wildworldofplants.com/ He has some books too.

Here are two more books in my collection: A Handbook of Native American Herbs by Alma R. Hutchens and Plants used by the Great Lakes Ojibwa put out by the GLIFWC(Great Lakes Indian Fish & Wildlife Commission).
