Not even in jest, and then only with a hair-cut clause in his contract.

Savage was shocking yesterday getting that Ipswich lad sent off....not the first time he's done something like that either!

-- Anonymous, September 09, 2001

Please no. I simply do not like Savage. No, I hate him. :-(

-- Anonymous, September 09, 2001

Surely this is a wind-up? The guy is a heedless chicken.
Surely we can do better than this?

-- Anonymous, September 09, 2001

How can a heedless chicken have so much hair???

-- Anonymous, September 09, 2001

..... he hasn't been 'plucked' yet. Hopefully it won't be too long!

The ubiquitous Sunday Sun (!) reckons we have been offered Steve McManamanamanaman, again. They reckon his new Agent spoke to BR during the England visit last week.

However, they say the Toon would only be interested if McManamanamanaman would agree to a reduction in his £60k pw wages, and if Real Madrid would agree to swap deal involving Solano.

In realtion to the latter they add that "....although agreement has been reached between Solano and the Magpies over his international career, Robson will sell the Peruvian if the right offer is forthcoming". This view is also being made elsewhere in connection with the alleged move for Heedless Savage.

This view on Nobby contradicts what he said or was qouted as saying on Sky..that he (Bobby) was delighted at Nobbys decision which would mean he was free until Copa America in 2003 and that we would now see the best of him.

Would Mac offer anything other than the versatility of being able to operate down the left aswell.

Certainly not the dead ball threat that Nobby offers.

Pete, These views are views of newspapers, and could be total pap.

Personally, I wouldn't touch McManamanamanamanaman with a barge pole. I just feel he's an extremely rich young man who is probably past putting himself out. He was utter cr@p when coming on as a sub for England in the last two games, but he's undoubtedly a fine player. However, imo he would be a huge gamble for us given his inevitable wage demands, and the possible envy this could create within the squad.

I'd prefer to see us going for young turks who are on the way up, rather than restarting the previous policy of buying aging mercenaries.

It wasn't just connecting us with Savage that was funny - it was the fee - £5 million. It was when I read that bit I realised it was just a wind up by some drunken southern journo with a very badly developed sense of humour.

God, I sincerely hope you're right Jacko.

This one is bringing me out in goose bumps! The story I read has Heedless coming here as a straight replacement for Nobby Solano - just not amusing at all!

If we're going to raid the Foxes, I'd like to see us go for Izzet. (It's not like he'd have to take the pens or anything)

-- Anonymous, September 09, 2001

Sorry but Savage would be spot on. We don't have enough who will do anything to win, who will snarl and cheat and do all those things that our nicer players don't want to be associated with. He's an ideal person to be bossy in midfield.

I hated David Batty because of his attitude until he was in black and white and then it was just perfect

Agree McBeth. He is the kind of player we need.

Not quite a tabloid but the article by Louise Taylor in The Sunday Times reckons Dabs scored wor second just before half time. Makes you wonder if these "journos" only watch the highlights on TV rather than actually attend the games.

As much as I have been one of the "if the price is right" brigade wrt to Nobby, he is a far, far better player than Lily. Yes, I know that they play a different role, but it would be a backward step if we lost Nobs and "gained" Lily.

I'd even have to consider a deal including Macmanamanamanamanaman for Nobs as the weekly outlay would be significantly more. I think Clarky hit the nail on the head when he described him as talented but unmotivated/able. Now, Seth Johnson - that could be a different matter, but I'd still want money back in our coffers.

Hmm - just re-read the Louise Taylor article online as oposed to my earlier hardcopy. In the online version, she says Dabs' goal was after halftime. Only goes to confirm my suspicions - she'd obviously been in hostility whne we scored and didn't realise that halftime had passed. Then, seeing the goals on Sky this morning, she corrected the article.

So dan, in Izzet, you agree with clarky and go for the young Turk?

-- Anonymous, September 09, 2001

If all we want is an evil bar steward to play in midfield I'd rather we went for someone like Nicky Butt than Lily Savage. Savage is a real attention seeking, poncey git. He is the sort of bloke I loathe seeing on a footie pitch - can dish it out but can't take it. Don't want him at any price and I can't believe we are even considering a bid for him. The only reason he has THAT haircut is because if he had to rely on his footballing skills to get noticed no-one would ever have heard of him.

He's also Welsh. 'Nuff said!

Spot on Jacko - the guy is a talentless pillock.

Quite frankly, the day I start wanting Newcastle United to buy players like this prat, who can do absolutely nothing but "snarl and cheat", is the day I'll finally jack it in - because we will have accepted that we are second rate, a Club that will never make it back to the very top.

BTW Macbeth, imho David Batty was Rivaldo compared to this no- talent.

-- Anonymous, September 09, 2001

But di dyou think he was Ronaldo before he played for us ? As far as I can recall no one, not anybody, saw the logic in buying Batty before he played.

I am happy though that Butt would be better, and Izzet even better.

-- Anonymous, September 10, 2001

No, Batty was a player who had won 2 championships with diferent clubs. I rated him, didn't like 'him' much though.

-- Anonymous, September 10, 2001

I don't think we need any more midfielders. We've got Robert, Dyer, Acuna and Solano with Lee, Speed and Bassedas as back up. Surely that's enough.

-- Anonymous, September 10, 2001

Hmm - good point Macbeth. No, I wasn't too happy about us signing Batty, and was subsequently amazed/delighted at the creative style of play he adopted under KK. Sadly, when TSM took over Batty reverted to the snarling red-card victim that I didn't want us to sign in the first place.

Rik - we really do need to strengthen m/f. For 20-30 minutes on Saturday our m/f was over-run to a much greater extent than they ever were last season, when they weren't all that great. At least part of the problem during that period was that the two wide man - Robert and Solano - just didn't contribute enough, and Lee and Acuna were simply overwhelmed.

IMO this is a real worry - especially if BR stays true to his intention to play KD in central m/f. This would leave one central m/f player to cover all the gaps, support the defence, win the ball, and also play it forward to the creative players. In fact I have growing doubts about our ability to play with Robert, Solano and Dyer, plus two strikers, in the same team.

Regarding the other existing central m/f resources - RL and GS are getting very long in the tooth, Bassedas won't make it, and there is essentially nowt coming through from the Reserves. This area needs undoubtedly strengthening, and the quicker the better.

Speaking of Lily Savage....there was a brief bit of footage of Lily walking off the pitch on Saturday. Looked like George Burley spit at him.
