Anyone ever use reusable plastic canning jar lids "Tattler' brand?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

I stole this question from another forum because I was so intrigued I just have to find out. There is a website called canninglids.com and they sell a plastic reusable canning jar lid and rubber gasket set that is supposed to be as good as/better than the conventional flat Mason/Kerr/Golden Harvest, etc., flat canning jar lids. They are supposed to work with regular lid rings.

Has anyone used these and if so, how did they work? Are they truly reusable?

I can't imagine being able to pry up on such a plastic lid over and over again--everyone knows how strong a vacuum can be inside a jar; at least some of mine have to really be PRIED off, so much so that the lid is creased.

I can't imagine using a plastic lid either. I often have to use a beer opener to pry the lid off some of my jars and when I do the lid is creased. I'll be interested in any replies from folks that have used these.

I have some plastic lids that fit on canning jars, but they are not for processing the food, they are for refridgerator or freezer storage. Tana

Hannah: I sent for the free sample lid last year, then decided I would order one batch to see how they lasted, but when I called them, the number had been disconnected. Website didn't work, either at that time, so I was concerned about their guarantee, if you can't contact them, how would they replace lids, etc. Haven't tried the website again tho. IF they can be used over and over, even if you have to replace the rubber ring, which is loose, kind of like the old fashioned type glass jars had, they might be worth the price. Jan
