I do not own a Samsung DVD 709 but I know from reviews that

>it is CD-R & CD-RW compatible. >Many say that the laser in the player can only read silver dvd/cd, it can't read golden dvd/cd (and probably Green media aswell), because the material used in the golden/green dvd/cd are less reflective to the laser, and they need a stronger laser. >it can play VCD that are 650 MB, & may not play VCD of 700 MB. >region free(after applying the hack) >Plays NTSC on PAL-only TV (very good) >Beware of firmware upgrade. Some DVD's that played fine earlier may start skipping after the upgrade. (Also may viod warranty) >Lot of conflicting reviews as regards performance. It seems all depends upon where you have purchased it.

...and finally I use SONY Supremas (light blue CD-R) & Kodak Infogaurd (silver) so far none of my clients have grumbled.

It has been my experience that TDK CD-Rs won't work in any machine that is fussy about CD-R media. Some Sony DVD players that supposedly won't play CD-R will actually play Prime Peripherals brand CD-Rs. Either Office Max or Office Depot sells them. I don't remember which store it is because they are both near me and it was months ago that I bought some. I only use them if I make SVCDs for my brother, which is not very often. You could always try Prime Peripherals brand CD-Rs and see if they work for you. Most CD-RW discs would work, but that's a more expensive option.

I'm replying to the question on what CD-Rs to use in your Samsung 709. I myself use 24Xspeed DISKHOUSE MEDIA BLUE DYE and have not had any problems with them ! I'm experincing however the problem of getting hold of the at the moment as I herd SONY brought the company because they were the best CD-Rs to use in the chipped PLAYSTATION ONE. The web site for the company is www.datasafe-media.com.So if you get any spare disks let us know. Thanks and good luck.
