NH predictions?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : orienteer kansas : One Thread

Are there any predictions forn OKers results at the NH A meet? Mike will be running against a few unknowns on blue (among some knowns) while Dan has to face up to the always tough M40s. Mike has run at Pawtuckaway before, while Dan and Mary will see this famed area for the first time. Will the late start times in the heat of NH be a factor? Or will months of training in KC serve them well ????

I would never have predicted a knee blow out by Spike followed by 6 houts in the emergency room.

I would never have predicted a band of pygmies would attack and carry off Snorkel at #9, chanting "Meegalafala! Meegalafala!" all the while. And he was having such a good run up till then!

Who would have predicted that I would have the best results of the three of us? Mike of course never finished day one, and didn't start day two. Dan had a big mistake day one; smaller mistake on day two. He was un-motivated after his mistake on day two, so he took it easy on the rest of the course. I had a very good day one, with only one small navigation error. I was in comfortable first (F35) after day one. Today was not as good (a few mistakes) and I was _very_ tired, so my time was slooow. Don't know how I ended up, but I probably took a medal.

Peggy was also at the meet, and easily had the fastest time on green both days. Good job Peggy!

I can't believe you are smiling in this picture!

I guess I'm smiling because I'm thanking George Walker (on the left). George was one of the three people who helped me get back from the forest. He, Lex Bundschuh and Jeff Saegers helped me back to the finish area. William Hawkins was the guy who found me and ran back to the finish to get help.

If you were hoping to place a bet on OK winning the relays this year, you may have missed out on the best (longest) odds about 9:40am HDT this morning. Vegas odds showed OK as a 50:1 longshot at that time until, apparently, some "big Arab money" started flowing and OK was back up at 12:1 by noon. I guess it just goes to show the impact that a Spike can have on your relay team.

Spike is looking skinnier than I have seen him in years in that photo. Or is it just the camera angle?

Congrats to Mary, who ended up first in F35! And Dan managed a 2nd place in M40. I was pot-hunting on F40 and took first. Going slow and steady pays off in this terrain! My offer to Michael to let him have the Yellow course in the Relay still stands.

Peggy-1st leg, Spike-2nd Leg, Fritz-3rd Leg, Mook-Anchor. I like it. Vermont 2002 for Spike's comeback? Maybe Snorkel will be finished mapping Swope park by then and come out of retirement.
