London Based Mags - Drink

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

Hereby invited to join me for a quiet glass of sweet sherry next Thursday 13th. The occasion being me getting a job in Durham, and finally leaving the Smerk for a better life. I hear the streets are paved with...ok, just paved. Better than covered in pigeon crap and unemptied bins anyway.

So, let me know if you're about. Will confirm a venue probably Tuesday. Somewhere around Soho I imagine...for no reason in particular

About Pigging time :-)

There's a rumour going round that Ken Livingstone is trying to get access to this bbs barred from residents of the smerk.

It's unsettling too many of those who keep our glorious capital remotely sane and they're quitting the place in droves to return to normality. :-))

Count me in.....about time young Min showed his face again after the chinese isn't it? howay all the rest of ya's....lets see Bobby off! :))

Oh and any of you foreign lot that are coming over begging for West Ham tickets, if you're about then make it known so we can let you know the venue...

-- Anonymous, September 07, 2001

I'll see you there Bobby. Whereabouts in Soho. Howabout we go to Tiger Tiger near Leicester Square.

-- Anonymous, September 07, 2001

Congrats Bobby - what's the job?

-- Anonymous, September 07, 2001

He's Sunderland new dog watcher.....he has to watch after pikey kevin phillip's dog when he leaves his caravan to go to the training ground....

-- Anonymous, September 07, 2001

better to show my face than the contents of my stomach i suppose Gav....;-)

Great news Bobby. Congratulations. I'll have to miss this though - in the IOW for the next week or so. Should be back in Tyneside for the Manure game though so buy you a pint then?

-- Anonymous, September 07, 2001

See you on Tyneside, Min

Tiger Tiger...hmmm. I see there's a £5 door charge on a Thursday. I object to anywhere that does that. Sorry, but I've had my fill of cockney tosspot pretentious 'bars' (what's wrong with 'pub'?). Alternatives, please...

-- Anonymous, September 07, 2001

Hey i'm easy......as the.....Gav said to half the birds on this planet....

-- Anonymous, September 07, 2001

There never used to be a charge on the door. Before 11 it is usually free and yes it is pretentious but it has three or four dance floors playing different types of music and has a good atmosphere.

But I am not bothered if you don't fancy it.

-- Anonymous, September 07, 2001

If that's the case, I guess I will swallow...my pride. Smart casual, eh. So toon top and shorts all round then.

-- Anonymous, September 07, 2001

I never knew there was a door charge either but it wouldn't suprise me, they've tried to refuse me entry twice before....

-- Anonymous, September 07, 2001

It might be easier just to pick somewhere else though to avoid hassle all round....

How about Quo Vadis (or something like that) just off Dean Street in Soho....they've let Sting in before now so that means us lot should get in no problem.... ;)

-- Anonymous, September 07, 2001

So we're not going to stand in the p!ssing rain waiting for a tube from Upton Park on your last night in dahn sarf then?
Well if Min's not coming then it'll probably be safe to come along then :-)

-- Anonymous, September 07, 2001

Well, this site says they do cost you the privilege of spending money with them. Dunno. They also say they "can't" let you if yer pissed. Which is curious given they charge so you can.

Ok, crunch question - twatability rate? Where 1 = few objectionable prententious hoorahs and 5 = Eton College VI Form annual outing

-- Anonymous, September 07, 2001

There's too many women in tiger tiger, i wouldn't be able to concentrate on you lads ;))

-- Anonymous, September 07, 2001

Depends on if I can get a ticket...unlikely at the moment, and I may be required to refit a bathroom or something

-- Anonymous, September 07, 2001

So do Mags everywhere!

-- Anonymous, September 07, 2001

Steph - department administrator for geological sciences. See if I can find any more detail for the Making the earh move thread :-)

-- Anonymous, September 07, 2001

Bobster, Wark to Durham is gonna be a hike alright. Gav, think Nick Raphael is the 'foreign contingent' in question, he said he'll be keeping an eye on the board for instructions (unless he's already been in touch).

-- Anonymous, September 09, 2001

TM, Dunno when Nick gets in but it'd be great to have him along.....

-- Anonymous, September 09, 2001

Rog, my better half already does the trip. It's about an hour each way, pretty much what I do now...'cept I'll be going through green countryside and open roads, instead of smog filled streets and avoiding road enraged cockneys.

Where's this Quo Vadis, Gav?

-- Anonymous, September 10, 2001

Bob,

If you walk along Shaftesbury Ave and then turn up Dean Street it's on the right hand side, not very far....Apparently Karl Marx used to live there Bobby so you'll feel right at home ;))

Have we got any takers on this yet apart from me, you, bake and possibly scratchy?

-- Anonymous, September 11, 2001

I've got a pass for the evening so I'll be wherever, whenever. Although this late night stuff might not be on the cards for me as I'm getting the 9.30 to Newcastle the next morning.

-- Anonymous, September 11, 2001

11 is hardly late Scratch :))

-- Anonymous, September 11, 2001

depends what time you're starting Gavin :-)

-- Anonymous, September 11, 2001

Reet, Quo Vadis then. Shall we say 7.30 onwards?

I admire Karl Marx a lot - Francis Wheen's biography is an absolute must read. A man of vast intellect and huge contradictions...he suffered from carbuncles, persistent poverty, chronic procrastination, married into an aristocratic family and used to get into fights in pubs.

The legacy is more controversial - as a student colleague once commented (on our politics degree) "I'm a Marxist: I'm not sure what it means, but I am one".

-- Anonymous, September 11, 2001

Why such a late start bobster? ;))

I'll be there from 6.30 I reckon...

Seeya there...

-- Anonymous, September 11, 2001

Well, I was about to post that I could leave the motor and get pubic (sic) transport in to facilitate an earlier start. Reasoning for 7.30 was to get me home, changed and out again. See you earlier then :-) Best get some nosebag en route

-- Anonymous, September 11, 2001

Just thought I would ask if people still wanted to meet tomorrow or not. It's been quite a traumatic 24hrs, kids. Let me know. Personally, I'm still up for it.

-- Anonymous, September 12, 2001

I'm there dude...

-- Anonymous, September 12, 2001

Cool. Will be delayed due to having to do stuff with me car - 7-7.30

-- Anonymous, September 12, 2001

Should be there or thereabouts around 6.30/7 ish too.

-- Anonymous, September 12, 2001

I'll be there around 6:30- 7:00 ish. Karl Marx eh. I prefer Groucho

-- Anonymous, September 13, 2001

Cool i'll aim for 6.30 then....after all i don't want to be the sad bloke drinking by himself at the bar.........again! ;))

-- Anonymous, September 13, 2001

Just allowing time for you to get my pint in mate :-)

-- Anonymous, September 13, 2001

Right - I'll be there at 6 just to be the sad bloke drinking at the bar on my own.

-- Anonymous, September 13, 2001

Leoni S Quo Vadis, 26 Dean Street

-- Anonymous, September 13, 2001

Is that it then. Is no one else going to join us. what about the rest of the Mags in London

-- Anonymous, September 13, 2001

Quality not quantity, bake. Well...I guess not even quality if I'm there...have to make it a quantity of beer instead.

-- Anonymous, September 13, 2001

Aye there must be more lurking....Mysterious? Dan? come on lads n lasses...

-- Anonymous, September 13, 2001

Errr....sorry Bake! :((

I didn't realise it'd been turned into a restaurant! we waited in the pub next door in case you popped in there....

Again, sorry man....I owe you a beer!

-- Anonymous, September 14, 2001

Gav, guilty of lurking as charged. As it happens I would have come along last night, even though the events of the past week have put me in a real mental dip (I just wanted to go out and get slaughtered), but I was working until 8:30pm, and couldn't have gotten up to town much before 9:30. And to be honest, I was shagged by then, having started at 7:00am that morning. HOWEVER, I promise not to lurk next time around, and I'll pitch up at the designated time/place - always assuming you haven't tried to throw us all of the scent by selecting a pub that's subsequently been turned into a laundrette/coffee bar/mobile phone shop/knocking parlour (er, maybe the last one would be okay.)

-- Anonymous, September 14, 2001

Soz I missed it - had I looked at this thread earlier I could've told you QV was a restaurant. Hope whoever showed up had a good night...

-- Anonymous, September 14, 2001

Don't worry Gav, I got there at about 6:40. Couldn't see you and the people at Qou Vadis on the desk were no help. Thought about the pub next door but couldn't see you so I met a mate after work and had a drink.

-- Anonymous, September 14, 2001

God damn it, dunno how I missed ya cos I was standing outside that pub keeping an eye out....anyway, sorry man.....

-- Anonymous, September 14, 2001

Your wandering eyes probably to blame Gav :-) Cheers for the night out, most enlightening...and I owe you
