I saw a movie called Two Evil Eyes. It was two short movies based on Poe's short stories. One of them was Black Cat. I didn't get the name of the other story. It was about an old man dying and his wife was trying to get all his money. He died before she could get it all and she was told if he dies it will be impossible to get the money. She had help from a Dr Hoffman. They tried to freeze the old mans body to buy them extra time. Something about him dying in hyponosis wouldn't let him rest. The old man talked of others and a bright light. He also begged to be woke up from hyponosis so he could rest in peace. If anyone knows please let me know. I know the story has been modernized big time and I want to read Poe's version.

Although I am not familiar with the movie you mention, it would seem likely that the source of the plot is to be found in 'The Facts in the Case of M. Valdemar'. It bears little resemblence to the tale the movie is relating, except that it concerns death arrested by hypnosis.

In any event, the story is worth reading for its own sake.
