What will the world cup be like without these two? And how will FIFA swing it so Brazil get there? And will we slip up on Greece?

Maybee if English fans wore tartan skirts and Orange shirts, got very drunk on whiskey and stonned on cookies, we'd be more liked?

nah... you'd still be singing "God save the Queen" and drinking warm beer, only difference is you'd be a tad more....colourful!

I'm rather disappointed that Scotland look like missing out. Don't get me wrong - I have very little time for our northern cousins who used to ruin my childhood by making a god awful mess of Whitley Bay beach. You've got to admit though - they have been responsible for some of the all-time great comedy moments in the World Cup finals!

Was completely gutted by Dutch result, until the Munich game got going at least. That said it was coming. They almost got beat by Estonia + 2 points from 4 games against Portugal + Ireland says enough. Theres an arrogant, smug quality about Dutch football (think of Gullit) which is so proud of its technical abilitly but forgets that other virtues can be just as important- teamwork, workrate, commitment etc. On paper they should have beaten Ireland comfortably. Bizarre tactical blunders by Van Gaal didn't help ie playing long balls for the last 30 minutes with Hasselbaink as left- winger!

A generation of extremely talented footballers just couldn't get it together at international level- Davids, the De Boers, Stam, Reiziger, Cocu, Overmars, (not forgetting Bergkamp + Winter). World Cup and European Championship semi-final defeats on penalties, and now not even qualifying for S.Korea/Japan. Sad thing is, with all that talent, they've no one to blame but themselves.

Actually that should have been Hasselbaink as a right-winger. When asked about it after the game Van Gaal claimed he looked comfortable their in training and had played there as a youth player!

You know Stevo, I was surprised how much long ball England played last night.
A lot of it was accurate cross field passing. However, the long balls up the middle that Heskey was supposed to knock down for YMO didn't work because they were often inaccurate, but also because Heskey is such a 'big girls blouse'. ;o{)

Heskey always has had his critics Clarky. I like his strength + pace, making space for Owen, but sometimes he does seem to lack confidence.

He traps a football like Les Ferdinand....ie. it hits him and bounces of about 20 metres!
