LeitzCanada/Elcan

Hello: The recent posting about Canadian lenses prompted me to look at the website for ELCAN, the successor to E. Leitz in Midland ONT.

I found it very intersting and informative, if not surprising, and of possibe interest to Leica fans and optical gearheads alike. ELCAN is now owned by Raytheon and is into a wide range of equipment from military imaging systems to movie lenses-IMAX-, as well as new lenses for the coming Digital Movie projection systems.

They also make optical parts for sophisticated medical imaging machines and optics for the TI digital projection systems.

They also give "front page" credit to their Lieca heritage.

Just thought some might be intersted after the heat of battle discussing filters or no filters, raging on about the arcane differences between the 1st, 2nd & 3rd generation of 50 'crons or hectoring over the name of Berek's dog.

The ELCAN address is www.elcan.com (Sorry, but I haven't yet figured out how to insert a link directly.)

Cheers

And they've also made the Primo lenses for the Panavision cameras. These lenses have a first-class reputation among cinamatographers, directors, etc.
