Check the online biographical material at www.eapoe.org first, as it is concise and well done. Concentrate on his formative years as an orphan, his education(England,West POint, etc.), his loves and writing career as a story writer, essayist and reviewer until his poems gained fame(The Raven), his wife, hardships and tragic death. Then by all means the slanders that split the literary world against him for decades WHICH STILL ENDURE as unfortunate myths.
