The following is a release by the United States Geological Survey, National Earthquake Information Center:
A light earthquake occurred IN SOUTHERN COLORADO about 5 miles (10 km) west-southwest of Trinidad at 4:52 AM MDT today, Sep 5, 2001 (4:52 AM MDT in Colorado).
A PRELIMINARY MAGNITUDE OF 4.5 WAS COMPUTED FOR THIS EARTHQUAKE.
The magnitude and location may be revised when additional data and further analysis results are available.
This is the largest event in a series of minor and light earthquakes which began on August 28, 2001. No damage is expected.
