greenspun.com : LUSENET : San Francisco History : One Thread

I am hoping to find some information on the oldest bonded winery in California. So far I have come up with Beringer, established 1876, but I'm not sure if that is also the bonding date. Thnak you for your help.

The Buena Vista Vineyards winery is Sonoma has always claimed to be the oldest. It was founded by Calif. wine pioneer Agoston Haraszthy in the 1850's.

Erica, if you were asking for bonding dates, I believe that they only goes back to 1933 when prohibition was repealed, but at this point I am just guessing. B.W. No. 1 is Pleasant Valley Wine Co. in upstate NY.

Hazarnathy's winery is the oldest. He fell on hard times when he sided with the South in the Civil War. The winery went into disrepair at that time.
