Dobler designs

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Open-water rowing : One Thread

Hello,

I am interested in designs by the late boat designer, Joseph C. Dobler. If any one knows of the current source for these designs, please let me know.

Thanks,

Randy: All of Joe Dobler's papers are in the possession of his son-in- law Tom Setum, in Irvine, CA (I misplaced his phone #; try directory assistance). Tom once had the intention to continue marketing the plans as Joe had done, but I gather he's not really organized to do so. I own a Dobler-designed Swampscott dory that Joe called the "Sou- wester". Joe was the first American to design and promote boats in "stitch and glue" construction in the mid-60s, following its introduction in Great Britain.

One Joe Dobler design is also available from Jones Boats, the 16 ft 4 in double chined plywood on frame Dobler 16. See website http://www.jonesboats.com/dobler16.html. Nice design for a triple use boat (sail, row, power). Plans $50.
