PC TIPS...Cableland..another going belly upgreenspun.com : LUSENET : Current News : One Thread |
Trouble In CablelandExcite@Home, the largest provider of broadband Internet access via cable, is in deep doo-doo. Creditors are demanding payment, and if the struggling company is forced to pay, it could go belly-up, possibly stranding millions of @Home and @Work service users in mid-click. Excite@Home's financial troubles are hardly unique in the online world -- it ain't called the "bleeding edge" for nothing. But things may not be so gloomy for cable modem users -- there's some talk of Excite@Home's investors salvaging at least part of its operations if it does go bankrupt. As of this writing, it was still an independent, operating company, though struggling to stay that way. Broadband is still the future, and cable is still the best way to get it. All those installed lines and cable modems won't go away if Excite@Home does. Someone will pick up the torch.

We keep getting "Sub Seven" attacks on our firewall at work, mostly from "@home" blocks. Notified 'em, and got an auto-response, that's it. No other responses.
