Meters, Notepads, & Cameras

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Camera Equipment : One Thread

Hi!

I am starting to get more serious about my photography and I am using a meter and taking notes while out in the field. I feel clumsy with all of my STUFF. Can anyone recommend an approach that lets them have mobility and freedom while using a meter and a notepad.

Voice activated microcassette recorder.

Hire a secretary to take dictation. Buy matching pith hats and grow a Teddy Roosevelt mustache for the early-twentieth-century African safari look.

Actually, I use a Palm pilot with a program called FotoLog. It has drop-down menus to record shutter speed, aperture, focal length and flash use with a tap of the stylus. Once this info is entered, the frame counter "advances" to the next number to record the next set of info. There is also a space to enter notes. It's nice but I have to admit I don't use it very often.

The mini-recorder or note pad may still be a better option.

Following Peter Phan's response, I also use FotoLog, but I use it as my primary means of photo notation. It's not as convenient as a databack, but pretty useful nevertheless (I only wish that it allowed me to add more data fields & that the frame counter could start on #0 as well as #1). You could probably create your own database for JFile or a similar Palm OS database program, too.
