EOS 5 & 540EZ (does not flash)

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Canon EOS FAQ forum : One Thread

Hi:

Thank you for helping?!?!

I have a Canon EOS 5 (international A2E) and my 540EZ flash will not work on it. The Flash operates fine off the camera body.....ie it will fire when I push the test button. However, mount it on the body, and nothing happens. The camera and the flash both show they see each other, it just simply will not fire! Can you please Help!!!???

Thanks, Ian

First, I'd clean the contacts on both items and try again. I use Radio Shack contact cleaner, but a soft cotton rag should help (with a slight dab of alcohol). If that doesn't heal it, try the 540EZ on another EOS body and try another flash on the EOS 5 and see what happens. Once you ID the trouble maker, get thee to a Canon tech dude pronto.

They are both brand new! The flash works fine on my Rebel G. I sync that eos 5 to my white lighting strobes in the studio........think I might have fried something:( ???..........................everything else works fine.......just not the flash!

Thanks, Ian

Ian,

It sounds like your EOS 5 is defective & needs to be exchanged/serviced. This based on the fact that the flash works fine with your Rebel G, and works off-camera. Perhaps you have a loose connection in your EOS 5's hot shoe mount?

So, what's the sync voltage of your white lighting strobes? You didn't attach them without checking first, did you?
