Ritalin - Blessing or Curse?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : A.M.E. Today Discussion : One Thread

Almost 12% of the nations children have been diagnosed with Attention Deficet Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and now take the prescription drug Ritalin of some other drug in this family. These drugs are stimulants much like speed or cocaine. Do you have any experience with ADHD in your churches? Is this drug being used as a substitute for "bringing up our children in the way that they should go"?

Blessings,

My mother had a remedy for Hyperactivity---it was a China Berry switch. Just kidding. I think that many of the behavior problems are linked to diet. A holestic approach is best--a modified diet of fruits, vegetables, with limited sugar and red dye intake. However, this requires time and energy.

An interesting treatment on the subject may be found in http://borntoexplore.org/ .

We do not have a major problem at Reedy Chapel, TX. I have had one child with some of the symptoms described as ADHD, but have avoided Ritalin in faor of diet modification.
