Becks loves us!

Speaking in this morning's Journal, David Beckham says:

"The NE fans are absolutely fanatical, they are unbelievable. I know I don't have to ask them to get behind us as they are already there.
I love the Newcastle fans, they have treated me well - I never suffer any nastiness from them as a Man U player. I've always gone up to the fans and clapped them, that's the nice thing - you know they will be behind you. It's great to be playing at St. James Park
."

You'd almost think England were going to be playing at SJP wouldn't you?

To be fair to the lad, I have noticed that he does try to be respectful to the home fans at SJP, even if it usually isn't reciprocated. However, he fortunately hasn't suffered from the more extreme chants that he's had to put up with at some grounds.

I think you're wrong Clarky. I've certainly heard things chanted about his ever-so-nice-and-down-to-earth wife. Maybe not so vehemently as at other grounds and I don't think I've heard owt about his bairn.

Seeing as we're all in a soul-cleansing mood these days, I have to say I think Beckham has done a superb job as skipper of the National team. I criticised him (justifiably IMHO) before he was skipper. He never seemed to put in the effort that he did for his club side (whoever they may be) nor realise his undoubted talent for England. However, since taking over as captain, he has been the star performer.

He's not a naturally exuberant person in front of the cameras and he's taken a lot of stick for this. But give him his due, he gives the interviews and comes across quite well - probably as well as his more experienced predecessor. I also thought he did well when intervieweed by Parky. His Missus (whoever she might be) is much more used to performing in front of an audience (yes, footballers do too, but that's just a tad different). But Becks is getting better.

Do you think he could write a book (or is that stretching things a bit far??). Then mebbes he could upset SAF and we might get a chance to buy him ;-)

He DOESN'T get anywhere near the abuse from us that he gets at other grounds. About two seasons ago, I was going out with a Manc and went to their away game at Coventry and the Coventry fans abused him non- stop for the full ninety minutes. It probably helps that he hasn't ever had a great game at SJP...

Screach - why would we want David Beckham when we have the statistical best crosser of the ball and best goal provider in the EPL in Nobby Solano?

Can you wait until next week before I answer that one.............;-)

Actually, do you really think Nobby is as good as Becks?? Or as available for that matter??

If Solano stays with us, it will be interesting to see what happens to the Man U set up when SAF leaves. If a few of his kids get wanderlust and decide to off to Spain/Itals for a big earner then I'd expect Man U to look to Solano as the direct replacement for Beckham

Screach, no I don't think Solano is in the same ballpark as Beckham. He'll do for the time being, though...
