Elpro Close up lenses vs 60mm Macro Elmarit

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Leica Photography : One Thread

I am interested in Macro Photography and on the advice of this forum was and still am considering the purchase of the 60mm Macro Elmarit.

I was wondering however how the Elpro close up lenses compare in respect of image quality. Your further advices would be appreciated.

Kind Regards,

If you want the best from the 60 Elmarit, get a macro adaptor-R (extension tube). I suggest the current version even if the older, dedicated one will fot your 60, because the current one will fit other lenses also. If you want to use a close-up lens, Nikon's 3T/4T (52mm) and 5T/6T (62mm) are superb 2-element lenses, much less expensive than the Elpros. Either type will work fine on a 60 with the appropriate step-down or step-up adaptor. Early 60's took an E60 filter thread, later ones an E55.

Tony, the 60mm lens is much more convenient and will produce better image quality than a normal lens with Elpro or other supplementary close-up lens.

Dear Doug and Jay, Thank you for your responses. Based on Doug's advice I will go for the Macro Elmarit.
