Albania at ST James - Predictions

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

I reckon 5-1 was a flash in the pan, and we'll be back to normal Wed.

I still predict a win though - perhaps a dour 2-0 (which I'll be bloody happy with!!!)

A win. Any win - I don't care just a win

A case of after the event i think, 1-0 with someone ugly like Ferdinand scoring and being described by the Guardian the next day as the new Bobby Moore...

Bobby Ball more like. Some good defending on Saturday, but mostly pants. About as much understanding shown between Campbell and Ferdinand as UVF and the IRA.

Got to agree Bobby. This seems to have been overlooked in the general euphoria over an impressive victory. However, I thought our defending was generally poor, and at times downright awful.

I actually thought Gary Neville was the best of the bunch. As a pair, Campbell and Ferdinand were hopeless with Jancker the ..... German CF (!) continually getting space between the two of them, including on their goal.

In addition, Cole looks terrific going forward but is a liability defensively. I've noticed that teams are now playing on Cole's defensive weaknesses, and sooner or later we will pay the price for his naivety. However, he is very young and I'm not sure who would be a better selection at LB mind. But, he must tighten up the defensive and positional side of his game to keep his place.

Whoops, forgot my prediction - 3-1 to England (Beckham, Scholes, Owen)

-- Anonymous, September 03, 2001

3-0, Owen to get them all

-- Anonymous, September 03, 2001

Oh another thing...

The Albania coach has said "My players don't know what they're doing"

(According to Sky Sports News)

Real confidence building comments there from the Albanian coach, he must really have belief in his team :)

4-0. We might have a cr@p defence, but if we don;t let them get the ball (except when they retrieve it and take it back for the next KO) we'll do aalreet. Ooh - aah'm gettin ecksytted.

-- Anonymous, September 03, 2001

I'll go for 11 - 4 to England.

The Ronnie is reporting the following:

The Albanian football team will be cheered on by just 20 visiting fans at the World Cup qualifying match in Newcastle because of fears they will claim asylum.

A Home Office spokesman confirmed that 155 visa applications - including 70 from the Albanian Football Association - had been turned down.

What a bloody mess this asylum issue has become.

The whole team and 20 supporters will set up an enclave, claim self rule and fight Govt forces, just like Serbia and Macedonia.

Will there be a round of "stand up if hate Serbia" or "Kosovan of Love" etc?

BTW 2-1 Ingerlan'

-- Anonymous, September 05, 2001

Ingerland 0 - 1 Albania

A hopelessly underhit backpass by Ferdinand lets in the plucky Albanians in the 15th minute. They then put all men behind the ball and despite Owen's diving seeing the dismissal of two innocent Albanian defenders and a missed penalty they hold on against an increasingly desperate and inept Ingerland attack. Heskey falls over a lot as well.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE!

I'm having nowt to do with this Ingerland bandwagon jumping. A week ago they were a hopeless bunch of Manupool hate figures led by a dodgy foriegn coach, they win a game and suddenly everyone is painting a cross of St George on their face. Come on it'll really spoil the WC if Ingerland get through.

My stance on being an England fan hasn't changed in the slightest.

I'm pretty much an armchair fan when it comes to England, mainly because the tickets are bloody expensive compared to Toon ones, but also because Newcastle come way above England in my priorities.

I think we'll win tonight, but if that doesn't happen I won't be as distraught as when Stan Collymore knocked in THAT goal against us at Anfield a few years ago.

spot on Nick.

-- Anonymous, September 06, 2001

I'll go for 2 - 0 for England, with Owen and Fowler getting the goals.
