Realplayer and Windows Media Player... Won't play!

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread

Dear All, I recently am buying up lots of copies of vcd's, and I bought an APEX AD-1500... It said it would play CD-R's and CD-RW's, and VCD's, and DVD's, but not one of my copies has worked. Does anyone know of one that's good that actually plays these programs? Thanks for your help!

Never heard of the AD-1500. You might want to go to www.vcdhelp.com and look at the DVD compatibility list and see what, if anything, it says about your player. I have an Apex AD-703 and it will play everything you mentioned. I remember reading once on another forum that some stores were selling Apexs that claimed to be able to play CD-R and CD-RW media and they actually didn't handle it at all. I've never heard of anyone having your problem with anything they bought at Circuit City, but if you bought it some place like K-Mart, you might be in trouble. Apparently some of the Apex models that the volume stores like K-Mart sell don't actually have a 2nd laser beam on them, which is what you need for CD-R and CD-RW compatibility. It could also be that your copy VCDs are not made correctly. You could verify that by trying to play them on a PC.

Well I have an APEX1500 and it plays everything. The only problem is that on cd-r burned VCD the sound is out of sync. Other than that i am very happy with this player
