Same old. Actually, we may have to start Sleep Training with my 9 month old. She's forgotten how to stay asleep during the night. Anyone with kids got any tips? I never do anything on three-day weekend holidays except chores, shopping, etc. On Tuesday, we get our big fat government tax rebate so we can pay off the oil company. Exciting, no?

Working around the house. Peeling wallpaper. Hurray. :-)

I thought that my question didn't get posted, so I guess I'd better add an answer. I've been cooped up for six weeks recovering from knee surgery. The last two weeks, my mom left and I returned to work. Therefore, I am escaping a nasty reality and going to Laguana Beach with my boy toy for midnight, moonlit walks on the beach, a romantic dinner over looking the ocean, walking around a missiom, wild sex with the waves crashing outside our motel room (I'll tell you if that really happens) and any other mischief I can get myself into.

There is a bluegrass festival in South Jersey this weekend (Ralph Stanley, Osborne Brothers, etc). I think I'll check it out on Saturday night. On Monday there is a car show in Morrisville, PA. That sounds nice to me. I think I'll shoot some black and white negatives at that one. Other than that, it will be chores, net surfing, and cat naps.

Well, no paper-peeling for us, after all. Last night, we got our hair cut at our favorite salon in Cherry Creek. We were the last clients of the day and we totally were being funny and we made our favorite stylist laugh so much he couldn't breathe there for a few long seconds. Then we went home and watched part of the last Broncos pre-season football game whilst dining on a killer spinach-artichoke dip my wife had made during her day off today. That, and a cake, and cookies. This morning we went to our usual place for pancakes for breakfast, got there late but didn't have to wait, talked with the owner for a long time (we've known him for years) and got ourselves invited to his amazing wedding next year in Portland, Oregon. Then we sat on our back patio and enjoyed the cool morning while reading the newspaper. Then we drove up to Boulder and had an awesome Creole lunch at Lucile's restaurant. Then we went over to CU- Boulder's Math library so my wife could watch a tape for her class and I read a stack of InternetWeek magazines. Home again, we had leftovers for dinner and sat on the back patio again so she could read some more and I could write memories on my laptop of my recently-passed-away dog for a scrapbook I'm making.

I didn't mean to write so much, but it's just been such a perfect weekend so far.

And Gwen, way cool on the brown shoes and I can't believe you got a patent leather handbag for 80 cents!

We went to my sister and brother-in- law's cottage which is located about three hours north of Toronto. We hadn't been there before because when they bought it two years ago this week, it was a total dump and not habitable. They have worked miracles on it so we went to enjoy their place as well as help them do a bit of work.

The weather was a bit cooler than was expected so I didn't swim in the lake, although heartier souls were waterskiing and tubing all over the place. It was nice to get out of the city. I wouldn't mind going back before the end of September to see it when the leaves start turning.

Paul, y'all's life always sounds so idyllic. Maggie, I'm glad you enjoyed nature. You should come visit me so you can swim in September.

I had planned to drive to Austin, shop a while or park somewhere scenic and write, pick up my kids, take them to dinner, and then drive home. Instead I had breakfast at Jack in the Box and then found out that my car wouldn't start. I spent most of the day dealing with that, then most of the evening whining on the phone. But now my kids are home and it's okay. I'm lucky I have a lot of friends with cars.

It's not always like that, but last weekend was definitely perfect for us.

We had a whirlwind weekend, one of my favorites of the summer, actually. Took my best friend & her daughter along with my son to the Hollywood Bowl to see the Tchaikovsky Spectacular (for aforementioned daughter's 14th birthday). Had a lovely cheese, pate & chicken picnic packed, organized the whole thing, drank wine and sat under the stars. Saw excerpts from the Nutcracker which was just enchanting. Spent the night with those friends and went to the birthday girl's bowling party the next day (where I was instrumental in taking lunch orders, names, shoe sizes and entering all the names on our four lanes). I did okay at bowling, enjoying the heck out of it all. Sunday we left those friends and traveled another hour to the *other* best friends in our lives, who we hadn't seen in a year. Swam and ate and drank all day, and headed up Monday, weary but very happy. Thankfully, I had caught up on all my household chores before we left that Friday, so I was able to chill out and watch movies back to back all Monday afternoon & evening.
