NZ: Dirty Diesel Costs $7.5m

The total cost of "dirty diesel" problems earlier this year could run as high as $7.5 million, according to the New Zealand Refining Company.

The estimate came as the company unveiled a half-year profit down15 per cent to $16.4 million, on sales revenue which rose 9 per cent.

Earlier this year the major oil companies, which own the refining company, replaced diesel filters in vehicles and carried out some repairs after an additive caused blockages in some fuel systems.

The refining company said it had made provision for, or already incurred costs of $4 million.

The oil companies are expected to seek to have their costs reimbursed.
