Seven People Found Murdered In Sioux City
Second Murder Also Discovered Thursday
SIOUX CITY, Iowa, 10:46 p.m. CDT August 30, 2001 -- Police in Sioux City are investigating a series of killings there Thursday night. In one case, a babysitter found a mother and her five children dead in their home just after 6 p.m. Thursday evening.
Police Chief Joe Frisbie says the children ranged in age from 5 to 12. He says none of the wounds were self-inflicted and their bodies appear to have been in the house for several days.
Livelink reporter Tricia Meuret says police officers entered the home only to see the bodies and then backed out until experts can examine the entire crime scene.
Investigators have not named any suspects yet, but they did find a 1999 Oldsmobile that may be involved in the case. Officers were checking fingerprints and other evidence in the car late Thursday night.
Investigators are now looking for a green 1992 Ford pick-up truck, which they believe may also be related to the murders.
In the second case, police are investing the death of a man who was found in another home Thursday.
He was found in the entryway of the home. A coworker went to the man's house when he failed to show up for work.
Both cases are being investigated as homicides.
Authorities are not saying how any of the victims died but they say all seven may have been dead for a few days.
Livelink reporter Tricia Meuret says police are not able to say yet if the two cases are related.
