Cockerham cut, but Denny says not final

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Purple : One Thread

The Vikings released Billy Cockerham, QB, yesterday to reach the league mandated roster limit. Green said today that the decision was made only because Romaro Miller was up to play this weekend, it was his turn. He said that Cockerham may still be brought back to be the backup QB or play another position.

Also the Vikings are said to have an interest in former Bears and Bills CB Thomas Smith who was waived yesterday by Chicago.

Next cutdown date is Sunday when the Vikings will be forced to trim the roster from it's current 68 down to 53. Monday they will be able to assemble a 5 man practice squad.

Green also said that Sauer will not be available any time soon, so look for him to be waived this weekend, making room for a guy like LB Mike Crawford or S Brian Russell to make the team.

I thought of Thomas also. It's too bad for Sauer he could have beena good quality backup.
