[OG Note; I saw a bit of this and was weirded out by the son referring to his father as Gary Condit, as in "Gary Condit would never hurt anyone."]

Son Lays Blame On All but Dad

By HELEN KENNEDY Daily News Washington Bureau

WASHINGTON n a loyal defense, Rep. Gary Condit's son lashed out at his father's critics last night and insisted the congressman has done nothing at all of which he should be ashamed.

Chad Condit, 35, went public on CNN's "Larry King Live" to praise his father as a "true American" and blame his plunging poll numbers on the cops, the media, Connie Chung — and even Chandra Levy's aunt.

Condit said his family prays for the Levys, but he accused Linda Zamsky of lying when she said her niece and Condit had discussed running off and having kids together in five years.

"It was a lie and it was designed to keep this in the media," Chad Condit said. "That has impeded and slowed down the investigation."

Chad Condit, who is an aide to California Gov. Gray Davis, a longtime Condit ally, also fired back at his boss for criticizing his father. "There's no honor in kicking somebody when they're down," he said.

The family is pressuring Gary Condit not to run again, he said.

Condit called his father "a good man, a kind man, a good grandpa. ... I would almost classify him as a pacifist."

"When folks start calling my Dad a murderer, that's too much, too far, unfair and wrong," he said. "I'm here to tell the American public Gary Condit — or Carolyn Condit — had nothing to do with the disappearance."

Condit would not discuss his father's relationship with Levy. He said he had not asked his father about it.

He insisted his father never told people his mother was very ill — even though other congressmen have said he did.

Condit laid all the blame for his father's dismal TV performance on ABC's Connie Chung.

"He answered every question she posed him," he said. "We picked the wrong interviewer. I object to an interviewer trying to act like a prosecutor."

He griped about the police. "Some of the guys in the top brass would rather be on Fox News than looking for missing people," he said.

Condit said he has abandoned his plans to run for state office this fall. "If this is what public service is about, I don't know that I would want any part of it."

From what I saw this morning, Chad isn't a son, he's a clone.

I guess Californians can sleep easy, knowing that Chad won't run for state office.

I think the country has had enough Chad to last for a while, anyway.

Watched GMA this morning and saw the interview with Anna Marie and the snippets from last night's show.

If this was your dad, wouldn't the first question you would ask is what your dad's relationship had been with Chandra Levy? He claims he didn't ask. He acted like the sleaze his dad is.

You're right, Beckie. That would be the very first question, "Did you have an affair with Chandra Levy?" If Condit ever admitted it, then I would say, "For how long?" If indeed the son didn't ask, then it could only be because he knew it was true.

Chad. Aw Gawd, BF, don't let's go there--please?

the thing that pushed my "weirded out" button was during the chung interview when she asked him if chandra and he had ever discussed marriage or having children...and he "spouted" out

"we never had angry words"

that was REALLY weird!

Yep. I noticed that too. He answered a question that wasn't asked. Just by him volunteering that information makes me think they did have an argument.

Chad is probably a chip off the same page as his father. Maybe he ought to be investigated to see who he cheats with.
