"Recipe" for 12 Herb "Ache Away" Liniment

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Beyond the Sidewalks : One Thread

Here's the ingredient list that goes in the arthritis liniment I make up, all are available from Lorann Oils, a 40 year old maker of apothecary supplies and essential oils and flavors, 1-800-862-8620 or www.lorannoils.com . Be sure and request the wholesale catalog, or you will pay too much money retail.

I use their essential oils and tinctures as theirs are certified potency and consistent from batch to batch, something I cannot achieve at home, plus, their prices are so cheap, I can't make them any cheaper!

Cajeput oil 1 oz.

Camphor oil 1 oz.

Eucalyptol 1 oz.

Wintergreen oil 1 oz.

Lavender oil 1/2 oz.

Rosemary oil 1/2 oz.

Sassafras oil 1/2 oz.

Peppermint oil 1/4 oz.

Spearmint oil 1/4 oz.

White pine oil 1/4 oz.

Oleoresin capiscum anywhere from 1/4 teaspoon to 1 teaspoon for the total batch, depends on your tolerance to it, start at the lowest amount and test it on your self before adding more, too warm is not good!!!

Rectified turpentine oil up to one pint, again start at one half pint and test, add more if too warm. This is the carrier base for the liniment, the more you add, the more dilute it will become.

This stuff gets better with age, I decant it out into one ounce dropper bottles as needed, the rest stays in the main bottle. Use amber colored bottles for storage, for best protection from light degradation.

Our local chiropractor was amazed at it's effectiveness, much better than the ordinary arthritis products on the market.

Thanks Annie.

Is eucalyptol different from eucalyptus? Does Lorann carry the rectified turpentine? I'm guessing the stuff from the hardware store would NOT be a good idea! ;-)

Hi Joy, yes, the eucalyptol is the same as eucalyptus, that's just what Lorann oils calls it in their catalog. And, yes, they carry the rectified turpentine also, don't use the stuff from the hardware store :-) ! The rectified turpentine has no odor to speak of, and doesn't even feel "greasy", it's an excellent base for many topically applied natural products.

I hope this helps some of the aches and pains of over-work and just plain wear and tear on our aging joints.

Whoa!!!! I sent my business number to them on Thursday and have my catalogs today (Saturday) already!!!!! WOW!!!

I was pleased to see so many neat things in the catalog... things I have been looking for.. but mainly "green soap"... it is a hard item to find... years ago I used it to disinfect wounds and doctors orginially used it for topical cleansing before and after surgery... great seeing it...

oddly enough... this last winter a friend of mine wanted me to help reproduce a old snake oil that he had for years (ancient)... and the main ingredient is "green soap" ... it had other essential oils in the mixture... by using the percentages of each item... we reproduced this "snake Oil" pretty good... at least my friend said the healing effect was the same as the original.... ah, Snake Oil Yarrow... tee hee
