Fire Has Spread To 150 Acres In Northern Los Angeles County

CASTIAC, Calif., 5:02 p.m. EDT August 27, 2001 -- A brush fire near a residential area of northern Los Angeles County has spread quickly to about 150 acres Monday afternoon.

Dozens of firefighters, with helicopter support, are battling the blaze in Castaic. The Los Angeles County Fire Department said some of the firefighters were assigned to protect homes in the path of the fire.

A fire department spokesman says fire containment efforts are being hampered by south winds up to 10 mph.
