Finger Lickin'

In a perfect world, caulk would come out of the tube in a perfect bead, exactly where it's wanted and the job would be done. However, this isn't a perfect world and that means caulk has to be manipulated a little before you can get the desired result. There are tools for manipulating caulk, but the best tool and the one most often used by professionals, is the finger.

Before professionals give caulk the finger, they lick it (the finger) first. This keeps the caulk from sticking to your skin and leaves a smooth bead. I'm not kidding. If you aren't comfortable licking your caulk finger, try spraying a little WD-40 on it for the same result: a clean finger and a smooth caulk bead

Answers

My truck is to masking-tape either side of the place to be caulked (as in around the bathtub), then to smooth with my finger. I've previously used water but the WD-40 tip sounds like a winner.
