--- Ahead of the Tyne-Wear derby on Sunday, Shepherd spoke of how much the game means to him and claimed Newcastle are a a club on a par with Serie A giants AC Milan, not Peter Reid's outfit.

"I can't explain what it would mean to beat Sunderland," Shepherd told the Sunday People. "If we lose, I kick the cat. I might get in trouble with the RSPCA, but this game means so much to me and all Newcastle fans.

"There is no doubt we're the biggest club in North East and we always will be.

"So we haven't had the success we wanted over the last two seasons - but neither have AC Milan and, like us, they will always be a big club."

Sorry to see the "hate" word appearing Barbie. It's a very unhealthy emotion. The sight of all the police today and the Mackems being specially bussed away from the ground I regard as pathetic. A pathetic indictment of our collective behaviour, Magpies AND Mackems, over many years.

Talk of hatred is stupid.

BTW we are the biggest club in the North East by any objective measure. We are also one of the biggest in the Premiership by any objective measure. The Premiership is just about the richest league in the World. Ergo Newcastle is a huge club by World standards. Don't get fussed about it - Sunderland is a huge club too.

Real Madrid are a big club yes? Yet they are in £200m of debt. Jonno is spot on, we are the north east's biggest club, with most measures.

Our turnover is second only to Man Utd, Arsenal and Leeds in England (ok fourth then).

To be honest, who cares which club is biggest? Surely league position and whether you have played in Europe in the past 20 years is what matters?
