Ok, here's a test. Who knows why we say the Dog Days of Summer, and where it first came from? Give it your best guess. I was surprised to read about this one, after using that term so many times......?

I dunno. The Hungarian and I call it Rock Time. As in, okay, the sun's getting a bit too hot, let's find a rock to crawl under.

Does it have anything to do with why they like to stick their noses in your crotch...usually at highspeed?

Barefoot, I'm gonna have to think about that one. I know during summer we perspire more and pick up stonger smells. So........ But no, that's not even on the right track. Keep trying.

Okay, I'll bite. I seem to remember this question from a radio trivia contest. I think it had to do with Canis Major (dog star) being the brightest in the sky during July and August -- Hence "dog days." Something like that.

Hurrah for Meemur! According to what I read about it, the ancient Egyptians believed that Sirius, the Dog Star, which rises with the sun during the summer months increased the heat. So it became known as the Dog Days of summer.

For myself, I never knew that was where the story came from. I always figured it had to do with folks seeing their dogs walking slowly about with their tongues hanging out, or strectched out in the shade.

That was my second guess...

I'm still puzzling over the term "Dogs of the Dow". You'd think it would be derogatory, but no, it's supposed to be a winning investment tactic, except that it doesn't work.
