If we mean business isn't this the man to hold it altogether at the back?

sorry, I got this from Planet Football

He would be a great signing.

-- Anonymous, August 25, 2001

Yes, I'd take him; he's not a 'reject', he's just peed on Taggart's batteries!

-- Anonymous, August 26, 2001

Please could you tell me what Stam did! The idea that someone pees on Taggart's batteries is most appealing!

Stam's autobiography apparently includes revelations that Ferguson illegally approached him for a move from PSV. They met in secret at a Hotel near Schipol airport. The Chairman of PSV said given how Ferguson played games over Van Nistelrooys transfer he wasn't the least bit suprised.

I've also heard Stam included criticism some of his team-mates, eg the Neville brothers, in his book, though of what nature was unclear (being annoying perhaps?). Either way Sir Alex Ferguson is sufficently annoyed to now demand all future books first get censored by himself (v. Stalinistic).

From Sunday Times:

Stam caused uproar at Old Trafford with the recent serialisation of his autobiography in a tabloid: he labelled the Neville brothers as whingers, accused Ferguson, of luring him illegally from PSV Eindhoven and coaching the United players in the art of diving, described Nicky Butt and Ryan Giggs as childish and added that David Beckham was "not the brightest spark". The club had not been advised about the book's existence and Ferguson was enraged by some of its content. However, sources close to the manager suggest that any ill- feeling generated by its publication would never have been enough in itself to persuade the manager to sell Stam.

One of the collection of detestable Yewnited fans on Sky News dismissed this this morning by claiming, "I don't really rate Stam anyway." It's going to take my Missus ages to clean the cornflakes off the wall. F***ing Armchair Cockney Reds! If there's a better centre half in the premiership then I've yet to notice him. Big, strong, fast and can actually play a bit as well.

Still, on the bright side, extremely difficult to replace and I won't have to listen to the meeeja's mispronunciation of Jaap anymore. It's poxy Yarp like "World according to Garp", not Yap rhymes with Jap. They seem to cope with the double a in aardvark so why struggle so much with Jaap?

Should we buy or not?

-- Anonymous, August 26, 2001

So Yip-Yarp's on his way to Lazio then. That will leave a huge void in ManUre's defence. PF reckons they must have somebody already lined up. Perhapsthe Coley deal isn't so far off the truth with a straight swao for Farcelino. £18M is a lot (it's a bliddy lot more in lire mind), but I reckon he's probably worth it if he can keep fit for another 5-6 years. Howay Fred and Doug - put yer money where yer gobs are.

-- Anonymous, August 26, 2001

I doubt they'd sell to another premiership club....

No doubt about it Gav. Fergie will be fuming, but it would make it a lot worse for him if he went to an EPL club. I wonder who he has in mind as a replacement??? They can't survive with just Brown and Johnsen and the Ugly Sisters a not good enough.

-- Anonymous, August 26, 2001

I agree with you screach, they ain't the force they can be when Stam isn't playing...LR might disagree but from what i've seen of them they look shaky when Wes Brown is playing....Johnsen hasn't been himself for 2 seasons now either...

The papers reckon Taggart has got the 35 year old Lauren Blanc lined up to replace Stam short-term. He needs to sign someone quick before the Champions League deadline.

Anyone else think that 18mill is a bit cheap? i'm serious!!

-- Anonymous, August 26, 2001

Before He went to Man U I thourght he was a fine player, probably the best in that posistion. But to be honest, I think he hasn't pulled any trees up while at manchester, infact he has made some right 'Homers'. That said, I'd have him in my starting 11!

£18 mil is about right.

-- Anonymous, August 26, 2001

We couldn't afford £18mm, and even if we could I certainly wouldn't spend so much on a player of Stam's age. Good player mind.

-- Anonymous, August 26, 2001

It's confirmed Stam's gone to Lazio for 15 million quid, end of story...

-- Anonymous, August 26, 2001

I've just been listening to the phone in on Radio 5. The assumption being made is that Stam has been sacked. Has anyone considered the possibility that playing with dickheads like the Nevilles and intectual deficients like Beckham might have just been too much for him and he is delighted with this move to Lazio?!!!!

hysterical wasn't it? haven't laughed so much in a long time. their moaning, whinging and total missing of the point was a chuckle-fest of the highest order...

;-)
