Broadband help!!!!!!!!

Um...I know very little about all this and I don't really want to know all the details - I prefer to take a black box approach - but I need a little advice. My current home dial up connection(freeserve - we had to take it bc it was the cheapest option where I live) is driving me crazy and I've managed to convince my parents to shell out for broadband. We saw the NTL ad on the tv but it turns out NTL broadband isn't available in my area(we don't even have cable tv or phone lines here bc we're on a private road although the road about 50m from us has cable). BT Openworld is VERY expensive and from what I've heard, its a sub standard service compared to Cable Broadband. So where do I go from here? Is there any possibility that the cable company will cable my area if we approach them and if not, are there any other options? Thanks for your help.

I don't know what problem the companies might have with a private road, but you can track the unified coverage of cable at http://www.broadband-cable.co.uk/availability/ . An cheaper alternative to BT's ADSL is the limited service Homechoice http://www.homechoice.co.uk/ offer, which a number of my friends advocate.
