120 Tech Pan and Dixactolgreenspun.com : LUSENET : B&W Photo - Film & Processing : One Thread |
I have been using FP4 or HP5 and one bath dixactol in a Pentax 67. Pretty pleased with the results but I keep looking at the 35mm prints I produced with TP/technidol and continue to be staggered at the quality (detail and tonality).I was thinking of trying TP in 120. Clearly I could use Technidol but I have also got to like dixactol. From searching the web XTOL seems to get a frequent mention.
Has anyone got experiences that they could share with any of these combinations in 120, especially with respect to consistency of negatives
Thanks
Dave

David, Tech Pan is a very high contrast film and with "normal developers" you will get just that... an almost unuseable image. Technidol is the favored but Pota and Divided D76 are a good choice also because of their (DD76) compensating properties. I used to use the DD76 and rate the film at 80 ASA with really nice negs that were easy to print. Technidol... rate your fil @25ASA to start but do a test. This stuff is tricky to develop with alot of bromide drag if you aggitate to heavily...

I recommend TP in Photographer's Formulary TD-3 developer. It is a catechol based developer, like DiXactol, and I've had very satisfying results with it.
