Hi, I'll be staying in Indonesia for a few days during that time I expect to buy a VCD player that only plays VCD, and maybe MP3. I already have a dvd player, but since it doesn't play CDRs I wanna get a VCD *only* player that does.

If this q already been answered I apologized but everytime I get to a thread closely relating to my problem there's always a talk about DVDs.

So, if anyone can help, I wanna know:

What best brand name for VCD players that has all the current 'features' of vcds (eg svcd, etc.) that can play cdrs and maybe cdrw.

I was told that all vcd only players can play cdrs, is there truth to this?

Is there anyway to avoid the blockiness of the picture of vcds, I mean when I play vcds on my comp theres none. Even when I tvout to my bigscreen tv from my comp it looks better than what a normal vcd player gives out.

hmm, and lastly if my q is too long to be answered would someone point me to site containing some comparsion of vcd players (NOT DVD/VCD) that has list of 'hidden' features (eg plays cdrs or not) as well as pros and cons if possible.

vcdhelp.com will not help because they only list DVD players. VCD player is only a CD-rom player and will accept CD-R and may not accept CD-RW. You will be swamped with number of choices of brands and models. If you want quality you may buy Japanese or Korean brands. Cheapest will be a half size generic model for about US$50 that can play MP3 and comes with full features and mike imputs for Karaoke singing.

Don't tell me that you want to waste money on another VCD player !! If money is no problem..go and buy a DVD player which specifically mentions zone-free & compatibility with CD-R's. I myself use a Chinese made VCD/SVCD player which can also play MP-3 CD's and believe me.... the features on the remote ...like 3 speed slow- motion...4 speed forward search....thumbnailed previews... etc. are not found even on some of the other reputed japanese players.
