An explanation of the fight

From CBS Sportsline-- You have to wonder what Shonn Bell was thinking.

Bell got into a fight with none other than starting quarterback Daunte Culpepper following the Vikings' preseason victory over Pittsburgh last Thursday.

According to team sources, the argument -- which began in the locker room, was very loud and resulted in Bell bolting from the locker room chased by an assistant coach -- resulted from a play in the fourth quarter of the Vikings' 24-10 victory. On the play backup quarterback Romaro Miller called an audible. After the game, Culpepper and Bell disagreed on what Bell's responsibilities should have been on the play. Bell threw a punch when they reached the locker room, and the ensuing fight knocked a table of food over.

But here's where it gets interesting. Coach Dennis Green was ready to cut Bell the next day, but Culpepper approached Green, apologized for his role in the fracas and asked that Bell not be released if the coaching staff felt he could contribute this season. Bell is competing for a backup tight end spot behind starter Byron Chamberlain.
