As the Conservative Leadership Election gets exciting

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

Things are really hotting up as the Conservative Leadership erection enters it's final phase (at least one hopes the interminable bliddy thing is in it's final phase). A few questions.

Who is Ian Duncan Donuts?
Does anybody care about this?
Why not?
Will this be decided before the next General Election?
Does it go to penalties if the ballot finishes 0-0?

And who should the Euro-sceptic Mackems vote for?

You can vote a donut into office over there? Amazing. And it would probably do a far better job than your average human, or even politician. Most likely nobody would notice the difference. It would just sitting there not doing much of anything all day. Of course it's upkeep would be far easier on the taxpayer as it wouldn't require fancy houses, cars and hookers. Sorry, I'm feeling extremely silly tonight. Lack of sleep and too much stress the last couple of days has made me loopy. whooeeeee. %-)

More Broon needed Ciara - never fails. :-)

I realise they're "hard-up" jonno, but: "Things are really hotting up as the Conservative Leadership erection..."

I was just trying to stroke stoke up some interest Bud. The spelling was intentional. I remain firm on that point. If it's over the top for the BBS, I'm sure Macbeth will pull it.

Jonno's right (who dare disagree??). This whole thing is just one big cock-up.

Ciara will confirm that one section of the electorate voted a dead candidate into office last November in the Good Ol' US of A. It appears the conservatives are about to do the same thing - whichever one they chose.

I'll bet a lot of the ballot papers have gone out to now deceased voters. That's why I was speculating on a 0-0 ballot!

Is this dead bloke in the US running the show any better than his predecessor?

-- Anonymous, August 24, 2001

Probably is! I must admit I found it fascinating that even though the bloke died during the campaign people still voted for him. I can't remember what happened afterwards - no doubt Ciara can tell us. The best interpretation that can be put on it is that the voters were people of immense principle. The worst is that Americans are all barmy!

I was about to say except Ciara but then I remember she's a Toon fan. :-)

They didn't actually elect the 'dead' person. The elected his wife. He was actually very popular in his state.

-- Anonymous, August 24, 2001

What state was he in at the time of the election ?

-- Anonymous, August 24, 2001

I thought the dead guy was elected, but his wife had agreed to serve in his place? It is true, though.

I still think we'd be better off voting an inanimate object into office. Oh wait, one was appointed to the White House in December. There goes that theory. ;-)

And yes, Americans are all barmy as well. 8-D
