Financial Planning with USB PaineWebber

Yesterday, Kathy and I met with Tim Curran and Dennis Peacock at the Columbia office. This was our first meeting in person, although we have been conversing over the phone for months.

Tim and Dennis made the following recommendations ...

* Roll my Digital 401K money into my existing USB PaineWebber IRA. this will give me more control over the pot of money. This should be a direct rollover. I later called Vanguard (800.523.1188) and requested the paperwork to begin the process. There was $31,288.57 in my Digital 401K as of yesterday. I also called Benefits Express (800.890.3100) to query about Pension balance. There was about $28,389.67 as of yesterday. I also requested the paperwork to initiate rolling this over as well. Note on both of these old Digital and Vanguard accounts, I need to change my address from 808 Register to current.

* When the Maryland 529 plan becomes available in October or November, establish an account for each child.

* Refinance the house to 30 years. Get over the emotional hurdle.

* Only do the max tax deferred into corporate 401K plans. Do not put after-tax money into these accounts. Put extra money into either the 529 accounts or our Joint USB PaineWebber account.

I got a package in the mail yesterday from Compaq Benefits Express. Related to the Cash Account Pension Plan. This paperwork was basically a worksheet on what my options were wrt pension benefits. I phoned 1.800.890.3100 and verbally told them to initiate the direct rollover procedures.

Gave them all the USB PaineWebber information. Fella on the phone told me that the paperwork would be sent to me tomorrow. Once we receive the paperwork, Kathy and I need to sign it and return it. When Compaq Benefits Express receives the signed paperwork from us, they will send me a check, which I in turn need to send to PaineWebber.

Also, was forced to establish a pin. 3338 was my choice. Address was the hint.

Got an email from Tim Curran on 23 August 2001 stating that I should move both my Digital 401K (Vanguard) as well as my Digital Pension over into the USB PaineWebber IRA account.
