Am i alone in thinking this young chap has a bright future? He looked competetive, skillful and quick. Well done Bobby.

I wonder if he likes opera too?

he actually played with some heart which is more than I can say for some of them last night.

I'm actually more angry at the players than being upset for them losing out on the UEFA cup

do you think they may have been knackered?

-- Anonymous, August 22, 2001

..some of them should be in the KNACKER'S YARD !

He should start on Sunday in Elliot's place. At worse, he can't do as bad as Elliot as we seen in some games and at best he might link up well with Robert seeing as how they will understand each other perfectly since they both yap the same language.

Well done Bobby.

Well done Olivier. Why haven't you been using him Bobby? I was very impressed with Olivier's debut and very surprised we've seen so little of him since.

What's the saying - One swallow (or is it Swift??) doesn't make a summer. We only saw Bernard last night is a frantic last 20 mins or so. Can he defend? Hmm - dunno. He ain't as hard as Robbie Elliot ;-) Who would Arca rather be running at????

i thought Elliot was ok last night. His yellow was unfair, his control was neat and he looked to pass. Also enjoyable was the part (channel 5 viewers would have seen) when he was clearly to be seen mouthing "f··king w···er" at the ref. Bernard seems like more of a midfield winger.

Re: Elliott and lip-reading. Clearly saw him say "it wasn't me it was him" and point at another of the lads, which made me chuckle.

Speaking of Channel Five, they showed a bit of the '69 Fairs cup final before last night's game and in a close up of the crowd were me and my mates as clear as day. I'm still as handsome as ever if more grey:-) All the memories flooded back.

IMO Robbie Elliott was arguably our best player last night, and (fingers crossed) now appears to be coming to grips with playing LB again for us at this level. At least he kept his head when others, like Dabz, were flapping like schoolgirls. He should certainly stay at LB for Sunday's game, and indeed will.

Bernard did OK when he came on, and following Wayne Quinn's equally pathetic performance down at Troyes would have been a better choice for this game. However, BR's election for experience in a big game is entirely understandable.

What is crystal clear now however is that WQ cannot play wide midfield at this level, and that Bernard is probably a better option, when needed. Having said that, I have reservations about him playing LB - like DD I suspect he would be vulnerable defensively. He looks more like a natural LWB.

Screach I think the saying you were looking may be "one swallow doesn't make her a bad girl"

-- Anonymous, August 22, 2001

Inded, it could be argued that "One swallow makes her a good girl". And more than one makes her fantastic. Now, who are we taling about???

Great story about the Fairs Cup Cliff!

...before my time :-)

Well last night I was with someone who would have been five in 1969 and they said "Hey! that's you in the crowd". So I either still look young now or I looked in my fifties even when I was in my early twenties. Glass half full or half empty syndrome?
