Located Vendor For Fuji Acros B&W Film

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Leica Photography : One Thread

An earlier thread extolled the virtues of Fuji's new Acros B&W film. I have been looking for the film without success until now and just ordered several rolls of 135 for use with the M6. Since some of you are also searching for this film, I thought that I would post a link to the seller. If you have found an alternate source for this film, please excuse this thread. I have no vested interest in this source of supply and make no claims for his service.

I hope this helps those of you who have been searching for this film.

I just recently picked up several rolls from my local dealer. I was going to share my impressions after shooting a few more rolls. To date, I have shot only one roll, and was generally impressed by the results. This film is sharp. Very sharp. In addition, I found the film to produce exceptionally good detail in the highlights, but block up in the shadows a bit. All in all, though, I thought it provided impressive latitude. The other thing I noted was that it seemed to provide higher than normal contrast (compared Tmax or Delta 100) - I'd say equal to about 1 paper grade. Has anybody else experienced this?

Regarding ACROS contrast and shadow detail...sounds just like what I've seen - and the contrast is why (1. the highlights seprate so nicely, and 2) the shadow detail is minimal.

My ACROS scans look far more like B&W scans from Velvia than from other B&W neg films (which is not necessarily a bad thing). In really 'hot' light I revert to Pan F/FP4/HP5 underexposed 1 stop.

I'm wondering why it isn't in local stores. I can get it here (SF Bay Area) even in a smaller shop. Maybe you just need to get local vendors to order it.

The Fuji Rep told my local camera store that they underestimated demand for Acros, and that production is well behind demand. It will be at least 2 months - maybe more - before Fuji catches up. I hope it is as good as advertised.

B&H Photo (www.bhphotovideo.com) has Acros 135-36 at 3.99. I've run five rolls now and - I LOVE this film. Fuji rep says it will be widely available at retail by early October. I hope so.
