Where did you get your stock pots?

Are yours Stainless? Aluminum? Other? (what) I just found what I think is a deal. 5 Stainless Steel Stock Pots (8qt-12qt-16qt-20qt & 22qt) for $30 bucks. My wife has been after me to get her several more. I think I will surprise her this afternoon with this set.

What are your experiences with stock pots? Pricing?

I have a cheap one from Ames Dept. Store. I really only use it for making cheese, though, and do that in the stainless steel sink in the milk room so the stock pot is never sitting on a stove top, just in a hot water bath (so the cheap thinness of it doesn't matter). Can't remember what I paid for it, but it was some kind of a special and just a little too good to pass up.

I got my last set of 4 (8, 12, 16 and 20qt) stainless steel from Damart for $40 (Metro brand) a coupla years ago. I thought it was an excellent deal then. Yours is even better now! Mine have proven to be very serviceable. I even use them for mixing bowls when the quantity is more than my largest mixing bowl. They have been most useful! Your surprise would be most welcome is my bet!

Hi Kenneth:

Every day use is out of the question; my wife and I use the stock pots kinda sparingly around our home. Whenever we are going a make a whole lot of chicken salad is the main reason we have them other than the holidays. The holidays are another matter. The stock pots see a lot of use then; "tamale growing season" around here is just before Christmas. Gave the hens in our family a long time to get together and cluck about what has been happening in our lives for the past year. Good times and good eats, I miss them a lot.

Couldn't tell you what a good price is. We inherited my grandmothers cast iron stock pots (HEAVY suckers, especially when full), and only have the two around. Cast iron will last a long time; you can probably will them to your grandchildren IF you take care of them. When seasoned properly, easy clean up and can be used over a fire, on a stove, any cooking service. I hear good things about stainless steel though and five pots for the price sounds good. Bon apetit and definitely remember to help out your wife in the kitchen when it gets time to using them.

j.r. if you have a "Dollar General" nearby now might be a good time to look at their stock pots. There what I call medium duty. Made in India. Real stainless. WE tried out the 8 qt making a run of spagatti.. Handles never got hot. Bottoms held up perfectly. So far no complaints. I did sneak back later and got the wife the whole set for Christmas. Shusssh she might be listening. LOL
