HP Photosmart S20 vs. Canoscan 2700 ?!

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

Hi there. I need advice, guys!

I have two offers for slide scanners:

1. A used Canoscan 2700 for about $200 vs. 2. A new Hp Photosmart s20 for about $300.

Any suggestions ?. Thanx a lot. Tim

I have been surfing and checking the scanners for digitizing my old 35mm slides. for a non professional it looks like the HP s20 is the best for the buck. Professional users would probably go for the higher end stuff $3000. or more

I have been using the S20 for some time now with a 36 bit @ 2400 dpi. I love it and continue to use it along with my Canoscan 4000. For color, consider the bit depth of the two. the Canoscan is great for color slides and film strips. For my B&W I use my S20. Look into the film typs as well, It's a new game when you leave the dark room for digital imaging. Also check if the Canoscan 2700 will do batch scanning. The S20 won't. That's a feature my cannon 4000 will do. You get hooked on that feature.
