The Roly and Min distant relatives threadgreenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread |
This is possibly me being a little anally retentive here, but would the BBS be improved if we gave threads more distinctive titles which clearly indicated what sort of stuff we'll find within? If you're looking for a particular post by someone or a particular subject, it's hard to find when the threads are called "What do you think?", "Have you seen this?", "Match thread" (which match?), "Tomorrow's game" etc. etc. Of course, there will always be times when people want to use an obscure heading as poetic licence and so on, but I feel that it might be nice to be able to find things on here more easily. On a related theme, do we need to rehash the categories on here? I find a lot of things I want to say don't fit easily into the categories listed. We could agree on a new set and then Macbeth can quickly whip through and put all the previous posts in their proper place. :-)
Bliddy hell - I'm getting a bit too warm in this anorak ...

Isn't there some sort of Government agency that hands out 'crystal clear' marques out as awards to organisations that don't waffle and confuse with long words and lines of incomprehensible text and meaningless sections?
only a dream?

jonno, was the one I started yesterday ok? :"MATCH THREAD - CHEWSEA AWAY, 19 AUGUST 2001'
Oh, and I spelt Chelsea that way to make it read / sound a bit 'cockerney'...260 posts later...
;7)

I couldn't agree more with you jonno and it already seems to have been taking effect!

Does this new ruling mean that I can revert to my very long thread titles, or will I get told off if I exceed a certain amount of characters in the title heading? Also is it OK to use ***** LOTS OF STARS ***** or are they also frowned opon?

No, juts bad spilling Rki.
-- Anonymous, August 20, 2001
Actually Bud the idea was just coming into my head when I saw your match thread starter. I was most impressed! :-)

SwiftThe Plain English Campaign is the one you're thinking of - and far from being a Govt agency, they were set up by an American of all people!
all in favour of an overhaul of categories - how about 'Mackems who can type' as one and 'usual transfer lies' as another. We could also have 'Galaxy's baking tips' and 'Screacher and Bobby's puns' as another. 'Gav and Keiron's exploits', 'Overseas clique', 'London clique' and 'Town clique'.
Sooperkev can have his own so we can ignore him...

-- Anonymous, August 21, 2001
I believe he is. And I have photo evidence...

distant cousin somewhere along the way, swift...Not dodgy porn shots AGAIN, Nick??
;-)

Hmm - I hadn't realised Roly was into that sort of thing. And there was me thinking his interest in Sven was to promote SK to the full England squad.

Well I can see straight away that this thread contravenes the new regulations. It ought to be renamed "Rory and Min distant relatives?" or some such thing instead of the meaningless drivel at the top. :-)
-- Anonymous, August 21, 2001
There - will that do?
-- Anonymous, August 21, 2001
Shirley you mean Roly?
-- Anonymous, August 21, 2001
I'm certainly NOT related to Roly the makem - in any, way, shape or form. This is a disgraceful, slanderous title for a thread...
-- Anonymous, August 21, 2001
I actually agree with min on this one.Imagine how it must feel if it were you who was accused of being related? It would have a devastating effect on the poor sod who has been lumbered with the association.
This is not a racialist thing, Roly may be a very nice person with some character faults and that Rory has been associated with some dodgy football, however to suggest that they are related in some way to min is an OUTRAGE.
We should apologise to RORY and or ROLY unreservedly and immediately!
